Question Pioneer audio annoying "Hiss" at low volume

I just made my first MP3 disc and was listening late at night with no background noise and I heard a low constant hiss from the front speakers (did not check the back ones). Thought it was the MP3 so I threw in a regular bought CD. Sounds the same. Put that CD in my old $65 CD player with 6 speakers and there is no hiss at all. Now that I've heard it...it bugs the crap out of me...Sounds something like a radio station that is not getting a strong enough signal.

Has anyone else heard this or mind trying to hear it and let me know. I don't think it's normal and sounds crappy. You will only hear it at low volume (it gets drowned out when it's louder, so you won't hear it that well). If I have to bring it in it will probably be a hassle to get fixed...

The only problem I've had is with the Onstar. I get some alternator noise when the Onstar is on playing through the system. Audio otherwise has been awesome. Very happy with it.

Pioneer Vs. BOSE

I have no idea why they put the Pioneer System in there, Pioneer never really impressed me. I'd much rather have you listening to the BOSE (like I do at Home)... for the cost, there is NOTHING COMPARABLE!

Complain to GM people - they need your feedback. 1-800-CHEV-USA

The hissing noise could be the vacuum actuator (part of the HVAC system). I took mine in today and that's what I was told.

The car was not running when I heard it. I don't think the HVAC system would be powered on ACC. . I'm going to try to talk to Pioneer and see if they will look into it.

Other than that I love this car so far. I have been waiting so long fo GM to attach a stick to a reasonable powerplant. It's very hard to go slow in this car...

BOSE is utter CRAP! I wouldn't outfit a McDonald's bathroom with such sub-par speakers.

I'd take Pioneer over BOSE any day. If I was going to really do up the stereo, I'd be investing in Focal speakers.

Agreed, Bose has nothing to compare with pioneer in the car industry. Bose is all tremble ..no bass. Bose would be good to put in the garbage at best.

Has anyone here heard a BOSE 5 speaker system in a Camaro?

Both Pioneer and BOSE are awesome the Pioneer in the Cobalt is very hard to beat. Both companies make good and bad stuff.

Heh. Flame suit on!

Copy this post into an audiophile forum like AVForums and see what happens.

Not everything they make is crap. Bose is just VASTLY overrated (and this seems to be common knowledge on the internet.) I bet their marketing department is 5 times the size of their research department.

The hiss would be coming from the amp, not the speakers. There isn't a factory system I"ve ever heard that didn't have background noise like that (I've got the Pioneer system, too). I do think they got cheap on the amp, as well as the door speakers since they just have paper cones. But since this is basically an econo-car, who could complain about this system? I'd like to know if there is any other cars in this price range that offer sound as good as this.

As for Bose, I'm no fan. I'll take my Klipsch speakers with my home system (and the money I saved) over a Bose home system any day.

ive only been impressed with the small bose counter systems. they do a great job of dispersing sound output so you arent sure where the system even is even a fairly empty hollow room.

but their surround systems are nice but only for 1/5 the price. they dont even come close in sound quality to reaching their tag. not even in the same league. but hey maybe someone who buys a bose for great home theatre experience would buy a mac for its great 3d gaming ability.

Since they're switching to Intel cpu's maybe they'll catch up and sell to more than 3% of the pc market now (but will probably still be overpriced). Good comparison, though...

Me too.. Bose home theatres systems lack in the mid range, especially mid bass.

I really love Klipsch. They have distinct sounding highs. I'm imagine that comes from the tractix horns on the tweeters.

I bought 5 klipsch speakers and a new Yamaha receiver for my living room. I love them. I often refer to my system as the 'Bose Killer'.

That's basically what I've got, the Yamaha HTR-5640 receiver and a 5.1 Klipsch setup (Best Buy bundle with a 12" sub). My dog runs in circles in the living room chasing the sounds (but then he is kinda dum, even for a dog ).

I got the Yamaha RX-V1400 and bought select speakers from the Klipsch Reference Series line. I got some really good prices on e-bay for everything.

I will add another "klipsch rules" message, since it is true.
