off topic, but does it have a remote start function? If it does, it might complicate things a little with finding an installer...

Doesn't complicate things much other then the need for a bypass. If someone can do alarms and not starters they obviously were not trained so don't use them.

The installer may be very familiar with the remote start hook up. Many times it's the shop's policy that they won't hook up the remote start on a manual transmission vehicle for liability resons.

And yes, I do know that the remote starts have evolved for manual transmission, that's one of the options I sorely miss in the Cobalt and probably will get installed if I keep it long enough.

The procedure you have to go through to shut down your car is pretty foolproof and simple once you try it a few times (gear in neutral, clutch in, e-brake up, clutch out, press remote start button, leave the vehicle, lock when the last door is closed, car shuts itself off)... It's designed to where the car is locked and is in neutral. If between then and when you start it the alarm is triggered or any of the doors is open, it won't start. Simple as that.

On a side note, many of our Cobalts seem to have issues with the rear rotors, so you better make sure your e-brake works perfectly before hooking up your remote start since your parking brake is the only thing that's holding your car in place when your remote start is set.

in a manual to start the car you have to have the clutch pedal pressed in. The bypass is what allows the car to start without the clutch pedal pressed in
