possible to fit a different 10" in factory pioneer box?
#51
I've got a friend doing me up a nice dual 12" ported box that's going to be sealed to the passenger cabin (subs and ports firing forward, seats down).
He suggested I use my existing 1000/1 to run both of the RE Sex 12D2's. He said in the ported box 1000 watts to each would blow them up in a hurry, lol.
I'll cancel the order for the second 1000/1 I guess

uh ya if u dont have self control then u match the subs up to the amp... reality with car audio is amp and sub power doesnt HAVE to be matched but u have to know what ur doing really well if they aren't.
I had my T40001bd on a 450w DD 1500 8" and had my 2 1200w RE's on a 100w fosgate amp. both worked out just fine and ran for 2+ weeks each (i think i had the 100w fosgate in there for a grip thou bc i was lazy not wanting to work on my car)

Can't wait to see how this turns out. Im looking to ditch my 12" JLW3 with ported box to save space for gear and stuff while still having some base for rock music.

I ordered the Polk MM1040 with the single 4 ohm voice coil. They also make it in 2 and 4 ohm DVC. I will post pictures and give it a review once I have it all setup. Probably wont be until the later part of March though.

Yep! He's getting or has already got the Alpine MRX-M50. It'll do 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms to the new sub and has speaker level inputs. Should be a HUGE upgrade from stock
Pics and vids when you're done. I've got a few friends who want to do the same upgrade (same sub and amp) and they are waiting for you to try it first! lol. No rush, we won't be getting nice weather here until at least april

Ohhhh, not bad! 350rms (so fine for the amp's 300 at 4 ohms), xmax of 25mm!! (that thing's gonna thump), sensitivity of 91! (it's going to punch nice!), single 4 ohm voice coil (although the picture does show a dual voice coil!?) Polk Audio MM1040 (MM0-1040) 10" Single 4 ohm Mobile Monitor Sub, .66 cu ft.
And actually, you won't believe this, I think that sub will FIT IN THE STOCK COBALT BOX! I mean THE RIGHT WAY! It's mounting depth is 4.5 inches, that's a damn shallow sub! If it didn't quite fit you can get an MDF mount ring that will raise the sub up .5" or .75" to give you the room.
I think you just found your sub
*EDIT: $86 from Amazon!! Amazon.com: Polk Audio AA3104-A MM1040 10-Inch Subwoofer: CarAudioDeals

this all seems like a lot of work for what you would get out of it.
i would just build a small box, or if space was really that big of an issue, fiberglass a sealed enclosure in the stock location.
im sure with a "better" sub and more power that stock box would flex like crazy

Almost all subs require you to trim the inside of the mounting hole a bit, but give it a try when you get it. Make sure it sits nice and flat, if not make the hole a little bigger. If you're mounting the sub inverted make sure you trim the opening a good 1/4" all the way around, so the speaker surround doesn't rub on the lip of the opening.
Good luck, should be awesome

The box shakes and flexes quite a bit with the RE on 1000w RMS, but was OK on 500 watts. I love the RE sub! Great excursion for nice deep base Takes a beating and keeps on ticking! For around $150 I don't think it can be beat
Because the surround is so fat on the RE i had to trim about 1/4" off all around the opening (then filed it smooth). Sub just dropped right in, and all the screw holes in the RE are identical to the stock sub, so she just bolted right up. I also used Permatex Blue gasket maker around all the screw holes and around the outside of the sub frame to make sure it was sealed perfectly to the box.

I hope so. I have a Rockford Fosgate Prime R500 that is 320 watts rms at 4 ohms on my ported box with my Jw3 right now. I don't need it to be really loud or anything, just looking to ditch the huge ported box while gaining my room back and maintaining some bass. Hope there isn't much custom fitting to this job.

I'm in the process... Here is the thread https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/elec...mm1040-272729/ I am playing the waiting game on a 3/4 inch MDF ring. The Sub sticks out 1/2 inch. A little more work than originally planned but It should be worth it.
