Pretty sure i blew out my rh door speaker...

lol still under warranty so might take it to the dealer to see if they can replace it or just order new ones online been looking on crutchfield online and kinda wanna go with pioneer just so they match and they have a few options

Car Selector

any opinions or recomdations?

and how hard is it to replace the stock door speakers or is it better to just take to audio shop?

If you want to go the cheap route then get a cheap pair of pioneer (or whatever brand) speakers and throw them in. The door panels are easy to remove. You could also look around and see if people are selling their old speakers they removed.

Id say just goto a local shop buy some, should be cheaper than crutchfield. and just install them yourself, just pop off the door panels and its self explanatory. the rear speakers are more difficult.

correct you can put in 4 ohm but you loose half the volume. considering the stock ones are blown 4 ohm wouldnt be an option

I dissagree, I somehow blew fronts and rears at the same time, currently I am running RF Power triaxial 6x9's in the back and havent changed the fronts yet and those two RF's were much better in the volume and sq departments.

Mike I run some Infinity kappa things now, before that I ran JBL very good speakers. But they are all deeper, so you have to space the speaker out with some alloy spacers or something like that (multiple washers are a little ghetto) so the deeper magnet at the back of the speaker does not crash into the door window as it winds down the bottom..

I got my infinity stuff from Tribute, great guy, he got wrecked and totalled his 'Balt and got a G35 S nice machine....he sold me his door panels with speakers and cross overs, and the rear speakers ( they are 6 x 9 and wont fit a redline without surgery so thats a winter project. But the Infinity stuff is first class, I stripped it out of those 'Balt panes, and put them in the Redline. And I could not beleive the difference, esp., the cross overs with those tweeters!

I also got a kicker sub, it was monstrous, weighed like hundreds of pounds, Coppertop put it in for me. I played it, put on some Stevie Ray Vaughn; the very best , and Coppertop, he said" you dont listen to the right music" and so he put on some fusion stoughs I have no idea wot.
well. Now know what it is folks play, when they drive down the highway past my place and the windows in my house rattle.

My buddy Craig's kid Ryan, he has an Ion Coupe; he was there, he really liked that sub.

the next day I took it out and sold it to Ryan.

Kappa's dont need the sub help for my Old Troll musak and the car was slower- it was like having two extra peeps in the trunk.

ya kicker isnt really what you want listening to anything remotely quality. but they get loud for rap so thats all that matters right? If you do decide to get a sub something small 10" maybe sealed is what you would want to go with.

no offence but the only thing that would be louder is the highs... 2 tweeters vs 0 ya whos gonna win regardless of impedance but overall volume wont be louder. you also have to factor in most of your sound comes from up front anyway.... prior to installing the new speakers did you ever while sitting in the front seat say oh those rear speakers sound awesome? chances are you haven't even ever herd them and unless you turned the fronts down, all they are doing is adding volume and ambiance.

If your blowing the stock speakers you either played them too loud or played too much bass thru them. loosing 1/2 power with 4 ohm speakers vs buying 2 ohm speakers... up to you OP

I usually kept it to a F30% R70% split because the doors distorted since I bought the car and I thought they made the factory deck too weak to be played too loud for the factory speakers (I usually kept the bass around 60-70% and treble 70-80%)? I understand the general math behind what you are saying but my RF's by themselves were louder and clearer than all four factories. Oh and I meant Prime not Power btw. With my current setup of the PBR300.1, MA80XE's, and Prime 6x9's I now keep the bass around 30% and almost never have it above 60%. Either way as you read in my the other thread the system will be changed around a little bit.

right an im not saying your lying but the fact the speakers distorted from day one tells me the speakers may have been blown or damaged in some way shape or form before you ever got around to it. also with the treble so high the addition of the 2 tweeters will skew the results as well. i can totally see how the new speakers could have and would have sounded louder but in all actually may not have been louder then a properly working stock speaker

Oh, no I didn't think that, I just figured I would let you know my settings because IMO they shouldn't have blown, I only turn it to where bass cuts. I bought the car with 140miles on it and the dealership claimed it was the door panels rattling and that it was because it was a base model and an econo car so GM wouldn't do anything about it... I was young and dumb and believed them.

I've blown a RF, and had a LF go completely dead in the time I have had mine. Admittedly I probably have the bass a little high. Not having the left front speaker does suck since I don't hear my chimes and have accidentally locked my keys in the car a number of times as a result.
