Question about the $185 stereo upgrade...?

Does that bump the number of speakers from the standard 4, up to the 6?

This is what the chevy site says about it that package:

"Sound system, ETR AM/FM stereo with CD player, includes Radio Data System, seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, automatic volume and TheftLock"

I think you are refering to the US8 option which is just an upgraded cd player for the speakers you have to add the package under speaker system which is UQ3 Sound system feature, 7-speakers, Pioneer premium amplified system with tweeters and rear subwoofer speaker.

But the 7-speaker package isn't available on the base model is it? Only the LS?

How does it sound? I don't need brain rattling speakers but I enjoy turning up the music to a decent volume with alittle bass one and awhile. I had this upgraded 6 speaker package on my 2001 Cavalier and it sounded really good, but the 4 speaker package on my brothers 2003 Cavalier sounds like trash. So I don't know what to expect.

I also had the six speakers on my 01 Sunfire and they did sound nice. Sounded better with 2 12" Audiobahn subs in the trunk too :P The 4 speakers arent that bad to be honest. The bass is crisp and clear and so are the vocals. The only problem I am having is with the XM Radio. It seems like it changes my audio settings everytime I change the station, so Ill change stations to a rap station or whatever with a lot of bass, and the bass setting goes higher than my prefrence then it sounds like poo.

Oh excellent, so you're in a position to compare. Would you say better, worse or about the same as the as far as the 6 in the Sunfire/Cavalier vs. 4 in the Cobalt?

Bass sounds almost exactly the same. To be honest the vocals sound about the same as in the sunfire. The only speakers that the cobalt doesnt have that my sunfire did are the two tweeters that were by the mirrors. Also I listen to all types of music country to rock and all of them sounded about the same in the cobalt with 4 speakers. Sorry I cant be of more help and describe it better, but I cant really tell a difference.

So I ended up getting a Cobalt with this package. The radio stuff that shows what station you're on and what artist and title is playing is very cool. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the sound quality. It's not up to the quality of my 6 speaker stock system in my 01 Cavailer. No highs, probabaly because no tweeters, duh, and the bass sounds distorted a moderatly loud volumes. I also wish it would read CD text from CDs, since it has the readout to do so with the radio. *shrugs*

So that was just the upgraded CD player or upgraded speakers also.

That radio readout thing sounds nice but I remember hearing that very few stations actualy broadcast an RDS(I think that is what it is called) signal.

The extra speakers are an additional option on top of the Sports Package.

Just the upgraded radio part, no speaker upgrade. The RDS thing is cool, if I'm listening to the radio it's mostly KIIS here in the LA area and they almost always have the artists and titles being broadcast.
