Question question about the XM radio in my 06 SS/SC

i have been doing some research and i still dont really understand it, i want to run my iPhone of the radio but obviously there is no USB or AUX input so i heard that you can run an AUX cable from the XM radio. How would i do this? Do i have to pull out the radio? and is this even possible?

Pull the radio.
Tap a 3.5mm audio jack to the inputs.
I tried it on my 06 but it didnt work.
Just made static.

It has worked for some people though so IDK.
And no, I am not electrically or audio retarded.
