Okay, ignoring the above posts, I will use real English. Typically, if you are installing an aftermarket HU in a Cobalt, you will need a wiring harness which varies depending on your car's year and oem radio type. Take a browse through the Stereo FAQ in this section. It should cover most of everything needed for those installing an aftermarket HU for their first time. Good luck.

What he said.

The ignition wire is just another way of talking about the wire that has power for when the car is on; Your best bet is to tap into fuse 21 on the passenger compartment fuse box.

But you're going to need a harness like what was said above to hook anything up.

the thing physically works but it just stays on after the cars off and i had wanted to make it so it shuts off when i turn the ignition off because the one day my dad took my car and forgot to turn it off the battery drained and now I needa get a new battery

i guess ill just have to check and see if my harness is the right one

thanks for your ideas

U need to wire the red swithced ignition wire to your fuse box... tap the sunroof fuse or wiper fuse you can also use the spare if it works. No harness will have a switched wire and whoever installed your radio and put both the yellow constant with the red ignition wire is a *******
