I do about 10+ over as well, and keep my RD for comfort. I was wondering if you guys know where to maybe get a power cord thats much longer so I can run it under my dash, up the pillar and out through the roof above my rear view mirror so I don't have that ugly coiled cord hanging down to my AC adapter?

What brand do you have? The cord for the 8500 looks like a telephone-type cord, and if thats the case you can use some cat5 cable for a computer and just crimp the right connector onto it. Not sure exactly though, but this is something that would be worth looking into, if you dont plan on changing your radar detector any time soon

Lets say you get pulled over anyway? Do you have to take it down and hide it?

I have a cheap Beltronics. The cord looks like the coil-phone type and the plug at the end looks like one for a phone jack as well. No, I don't plan on changing it, it's worked extremely and surprisingly well for me. It's saved me more times than I can think, and I didn't pay a dime for it as it was a present.

I would look at the pin out on the jack and see if you think you could splice together and crimp an extension for it. How many contact points does the jack part of the cable have?

The cord itself looks like it has 4 contact points on the end.

You could probably get away with using a regular old telephone line, but make sure it has 4 leads, most only have 2, but I have seen them with 4...

The lower the detector the better for laser signals, the higher the detector the better for bands like K ka. If it is too close to the dash you might loose warning distance because of the wipers and so on, half way is most practical but looks like crap

Hate to break it to you, but that is not as good as it seems. First, radar scramblers are illegal, which is one reason why the FCC is cracking down on RMR. Even then, they have been tested by independent parties, and the scramble only works about 3-4 FEET from the radar unit. Laser jammers are legal in some states, but they have to be installed on your car. A dash unit won't do much, since the targets are either your headlights, front plate, or a chrome bumper on some vehicles. Also, a laser jammer is not effective at closer ranges(200-300 feet), basically gives you time to slow down.

As a previous poster mentioned, low center is best for laser, high center (or close to it) is best for radar. Helps if you can fid out what is used in your area. And some states do still use X band, so turning of X might not be a good idea.

Ion, the falses are probably automatic door openers, cobra and RMR radar detectors, or some cell towers/radio towers will set them off. Also, if you are around an airport, one of their sensors can trigger a false laser alert. Be careful though, sometimes police will learn where these falses happen, and use them to hide. Just watch signal strength.

Oh, and stealth, RMR's ticket payment thing is worthless. The way it works is based on what the posted limit is, if your ticket is either 30% or 15 over, which ever is LESS, they will pay the FINE, not court costs. So if your ticket is for 80 in a 65, say one dollar per mph. Alright, your ticket (using my state) would be $125, $15 fine, plus $110 court cost. RMR pays the $15, leaving you to pay the $110, plus insurance rate increases etc. And I can bet that the trooper didn't come after you because he knew that it was too dangerous to try to catch you.

Scythe, as to hiding it if you get pulled, probably a good idea.

Myth... two of my buddies are cops here in tx, and they've both told me they aim for the center mass of the car, not just the front lp...

I have a valentine 1,and i have it mounted right above my rear view mirror. It picks up the front and the rear of the vehicle very good.I dont like having it mounted in the middle of the winshield cause i dont want nobody to see it.When people see it,they tend to keep pace with you cause they know you have a rader detector.Heres a pic of mine.
