How much did you pay and where did you get it!

sorry NKs07... i totally didn't answer your question... you get the escort yet? i just went to the main website of http://www.escortradar.com/ and looked at what i wanted to get... then also got the insurance package with it... for the extra little $ it's nice to know your equip is protected... then what i did was actually called them and ordered over the phone and they were able to ship it earlier than i could do online...

btw... she picked up her first 5.0 this morning on road today... was right by another place that always sends off false signals... i had blocked that signal out earlier and WHAM she starts blowing up and there he was, coming the other way clocking oncoming traffic... plenty of time to slow down (i actually wasn't speeding ironically) and she picked up his signal OVER the locked out signal... pure textbook... i was so proud... :

Ok, heres the deal. All police around the country are using a new type of radar that radar detectors cannot detect....

however, the new lines sometime this year i think, will offer it.

So personaly, i wouldnt buy one until you hear somethin about the detectors detecting a NEW type of radar.

but its still new, only like, 1/4 of the police have it....all the state boys pretty much do, city is a 50/50 chance...

Yeah its made by Rocky Mountain Radar and it sucks. I had one and tested it on my friends trooper car. It says it jams the signal but it doesn't do it as it says. It won't jam the signal unless you are literaly right nest to the radar source. Waste of money! They ticket rebate is such a scam too. You have to prove to them you weren't going more than 15mph over the limit to be eligable.

Yeah, IIRC the new radar is called Ku radar
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radar_gun
More specifically http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_band

The brits have been using it for a while. I knew it was coming here, just not sure when. In TX I detect K and Ka alot on state troopers and local police, but sometimes my escort is quiet when they pass, maybe tx is starting to phase in Ku...

BTW: Valentine one is able to detect Ku, you just have to reprogram it
http://www.valentine1.com/specs/
I'll check into other detectors real quick as well

Escort 9500i supports Ku http://www.escortradar.com/9500i-specifications.htm

you know what...I read this thread and bought an 8500 X50 off impulse.

I had this thing literally in my car for about 5 min. WHEN I GOT PULLED OVER!!!!!

I was driving down this street on my way to work I get like one bar of Ka so I'm like ok then instantly I get a full reading so I immediately slow down. Just in time to pass a police truck who turns on his lights and pulls me over.

I guess its my fault for not seeing the police truck behind the sign off the side of the road...I thought it was a construction truck.

I feel like I just got ripped off...I'm so pissed!

I'm guessing I just had a taste of the instant laser "you can pull over now" signal?

No you got zapped by Ka... Whenever I see a K or Ka anything I immediately slow down. Generally speaking, K and Ka warnings should always be heeded. X band, not so much. The only time I dont slow down for a K or Ka warning is when I know that it is a false alarm (ie passed the same area several times with the same warning)

well how come this thing didn't give me full signal til I was like 100 feet from the guy

he seemed to see me a hell of alot sooner than I saw him...and I was on the same street as him for quite some time.

It was like one bar then a split second later full alert...

I think he saw the detector and decided to pull me over anyway even though i was going the speed limit by the time I passed him.

Hard wire it in upto the mirror and moutn the radar to the left of the mirror. from the sides and rear you almost can't tell it is there and if you do get pulled over you should be able to snag it quick enough and toss it out of sight. never had to toss it though cause the V1 works.

Well, thats because when it is going full alarm, then they have a lock on you. When its one bar, that means there is one near you. Remember these things arent a free ride to speed, they only warn you when you are near a radar.

Like I said, whenever I get a blip of K or Ka, I know that there is one around, and you wont get a full alarm from any detector unless you are staring the cop in the face.

I guess I'm just a new guy to detectors then

I would expect one bar when theres a cop maybe over a mile away...not half way down the street.

I wasn't staring the cop directly in the face but apparently he was staring at me...like I said I thought it was a construction truck. I didn't see the police sign until I was within a few feet of him and at that time I had more than slowed down.

I just find it very ironic that within minutes of owning a radar detector I get a ticket on a street just min. outside of my neighborhood with no real traffic on it. Kinda funny from a 3rd person point of view but I'm still pissed, lol

hey how do you guys get the sunction cups to stick better? is there anything that I can put on them to strengthen the hold? I've tried cleaning them as well as the window and I'm still having a hard time getting them to stick. It only seemed strong the first couple times I stuck it on there.

Also I've noticed that driving on the freeway I've passed many cops cars with no alerts at all...are the detectors ONLY picking up cars that are checking for speed or any car that is equipped with radar?

I seems awful wierd that i've passed several highway patrol on the road with no alerts...are they just there to scare people to slow down or what?

a quick heads up... the excort 9500i picks up Ku bands... you just have to turn it on... also picks up POP radar... which is when the officer keeps the fun on standby and "pops" it on when needed. pretty dangerous for speeders with detectors. also has SWS bands which tell you about saftey notes (bridge is out, accident ahead... etc..) but that isn't very widely used...

1. getting pulled JUST after getting the detector... i'm sorry... but later, it will be a funny story and you'll have people rolling if you tell it right. ha.
2. suction cups.. lick and stick... can't help ya past that...
3. passing cops and no alert... yeah they don't have their radar on... you'll only get a signal if a cop has radar on. this is where the POP radar is dangerous...(see above) but they can sit with their gun in standby.. no signal.. and switch on and nail you in an instant.. which from the sounds of it may have been done by your construction cop buddy
4. oh and K or Ka band... yeah i'm with johnboy... hit the brakes. some are false, but most aren't. if you have the 9500i then you can actaully program the false alerts and not get them anymore. pretty sweet feature.

I actually used some Velcro that's designed for outdoor use. pretty heavy-duty stuff. problem is, it's gray so you might wanna paint it to match your dash before you install it. also, if you use it, it'll be permanent--as super glue is the only stuff that holds to the dash. the sticky substance on the velcro simply isn't enough to hold for more than a day.

8500 and 9500 are the same as far as detection.. and distance etc.. 9500 has all kinds of new bells and wistles though.. like voice.. speed sensative volumeing and range settings and GPS... but the protection is the same on them both.....
