mine does the exact same thing but starts to work right whenever I talk about gettin a new one while I'm in the car(I must've gotten the female one ) I jus ignore it most of the time or push mute unless Im doin 70+

I had the same thing happen with my old radar too! I had an Escort 8500. I could never figure out why it would do it. I just figured that something was wrong with it and when you really got on it, it made something in the detector move and set it off. I really don't know why it did it, but since you and others have had a similar experience I'm guessing it has to do with the force of the acceleration.

lol like I said, I was only guessing, I don't know why it does it. It could be a voltage spike as well. But at least other people have had the same problems and I'm not the only one.

I know this is bumping an old thread but my radar did this also, and some of you may still be dealing with this.
SOLUTION: Hard-wire it.
Problem solved. 110% guaranteed. I have no clue why this worked, but it did. I was told this by a friend who works at an audio shop.

haha the credit's all yours. only thing different is i wired it to the sunroof fuse instead lol. works like a charm though woo woo. i'm excited cause i was just about to buy a new detector.

Not exactly. It is (to the best of my knowledge) a problem with voltage dropping when there is a fuse in-line with the circuit. The cigarette part does have a mini tube-fuse in it. But, as soon as you remove that part, no voltage drop. Not sure why, but it is what it is.
