Radar/laser detectors

Does anyone have any suggestions on a radar/laser detector that performs VERY well....only well enough for my to be doing 160 on the highway, be warned, and slow down to 65 in time ? haha ... Seriously though... Does anyone have any input on good radar/laser detectors? I'm currently looking at the Valetine models... the V1.....but I don't know if there are better options available...anyway..thanks in advance...

I have the Escort 8500 X50, I like it. I don't go through many speed traps though, so I have never really tested it out. But for my purposes of going between 80-85-90 it is perfectly fine. When I bought it, it was a toss up between the Valentine V1, Escort 8500 X50 and the Beltronics RX-65. Some people swear by the V1, but I don't really get it. It has a bit better laser detection, but the biggest selling point is the directional arrows. I really don't get the point. If you detector goes off, you need to slow down no matter where it is coming from. I personally thought it would be better not to know where it came from.

escort 8500 x50 is what i have, 0 problems with it
the V1 falses CONSTANTLY, its such garbage

however, buying one doesnt make you immune, police still can use visual estimates, and instant on radar, and there is no way in hell you will slow down from 160 to 60 safely
just drive safe, and be smart

Ya I'm obviously exaggerating on some aspects of what I said. I just want a well balanced detector... basically 100 mph highway driving with a simple warning...so that I can safely slow down.. Is there an adjustable range on the Escort model like there is on the V1? If not...What does the Escort offer for range? thanks.......again.lol

yea...but i'm a daily driver....a speeder though.. lol... i occasionally race...the detector would be for daily highway driving and such.......and when i race to make sure i don't get caught in the act ..... the V1 seems to be for more "professional" applications....rather than daily driving such as the Escort models...

I guess the blue is easyer to see at night then the red. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

I didn't read the whole thread, but aside from the radar - you still have to watch ahead if you are speeding. Lately, cops will POP you - and if you're not looking, no radar will help at all.

I have a radar my self, yes its saved me multiple times - but I still have gotten one ticket with it. I got POPed by a state cop, my radar was useless against that. I have a K40 and friggin love it!

Actually red LEDs are easier on the eyes. how do I know? navy seals use red light in the dark to read maps, etc. their eyes have no need to adjust cause of the light.

Blue is more expensive cause producing blue LED is more costly then making red or any other colour.

ahhh, an area I have a lot of knowledge in! Radar detectors can work ONLY if there is traffic in front of you. If you're rolling solo down a road to a cop running radar, NO and I repeat NO radar will garauntee safety. Laser detectors (and you must repeat this too yourself) DO NOT WORK!! The only laser you can beat is with a jammer and they're illegal and the fine is HUGE! Plus cops know when you have one, so they'll strip your car to find it! If you pass a cop and your detector goes off and you're speeding, doesn't mean it worked! LOL! I love that part when people say that! It means that many things could be happening in the patrol vehicle. He's not paying attention because he/she has it on a set speed alarm and is ready the paper, napping, whatever and they're not sure of the car because now you've hit the brakes, or the cop doesn't care, you're speeding but not enough to give up their spot, cause they just got there and some other **** nut will be bye in the next 30 min or so going faster. There's many more too. Just consider yourself blessed or lucky and cruise on. Oh, and if you do get stopped and the cop says he/she got you on radar, then you ask if the A/C was on in the car and if they say yes, then politely ask the cop to put that in the remarks box. A/C in the patrol cruiser makes radars inaccurate!
Now some people will say that some or all of this in not true. Too you I say whatever. I've spent many a class hours teaching and receiving info on traffic enforcement. If you are saying it's not true, but know it really is, then I say to you, what department do YOU work for? If you speed you will simply have to take your lumps when they come or get educated on traffic laws, not buy detectors! Good luck all!

"radartest.com" mmmmmmkay, one wonders what vested interest they have in knocking down the V1.

Gee, look at all the things at the bottom of that link the V1 doesn't have! Here's a few:

Multi-step Dim/Dark Control
Auto Mute
Voice Alerts
Hard-sided carrying case
Text Display

Good lord, I know I should''nt be able to function without voice alerts! Compared to, oh, I don't know a easily noticable display that also tells you a direction to the alert? Because I sure know I would be able to hear the voice alert with my stereo turned up.

(/sarcasm)

Seems that the owner of radartest.com and Mike Valentine don't like one another.

Soooooooooo, how about an impartial 3rd party?

Maybe an actual WELL KNOWN and RESPECTED magazine. C&D?

One little thing, and I have this direct from friends in law enforcement. he radar/laser is the LAST step in judging your speed. They are supposed to VISUALLY gauge your speed first, and then use the radar/laser to confirm it. This is why you can get pulled by an officer who does not have a radar/laser in his car. And they don't have to be right next to you to do it.
