Exclamation Radio is extremely quiet? Need an expert!

I posted this in problems and services but no response in a few days so I figured I would ask here.

My radio is extremely quiet. If it shows full blast in on the HU, realistically it sounds like it's at 1/4 volume. This started randomly. If I have it all the way up and turn the volume knob down quickly it will get as loud as it should be, then quiet down instantly.

All of my other sounds, (Turn signals, seatbelt chime, etc), are all as loud as they normally are.

I'm trying to explain this to the best of my ability, please ask if you need me to give more information or anything.

Thanks

It has premium sound, which has the external amp. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

I actually tried this yesterday, no luck.

No funny sounds, nothing, it sounds how it should, just really quiet.

If I have the volume at max then turn it down quickly with the knob it will go to how loud it should be then instantly get quiet. Or if I leave the volume at any spot, say full again for example, when I turn the car on, it will be at max like it should be for a split second then go back to being quiet as heck.

Little update: I checked all the fuses and nothing. They're all fine. If I swap HUs with a buddy just to see if that is the problem, will we need any sort of codes or what ever or is it just plug and play?

Delcos aren't too big on security, you should be fine...JJ would know better than me though, I've never swapped a stock for stock.

Good and bad news.

Good: Leaving my buddy's house 15 minutes ago, I go to crank the volume to max (so I can hear it) and it is LOUD. I turn it down quickly and realize it is working normal again! Randomly!

Bad: What does this mean in the long run..? Electrical problems? Was it a 1-time thing?

Nope, never did. It randomly started working normal last night. Is that a bad electrical problem or what? Maybe a 1-time thing?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the stock HU has the speed volume control (faster ya go, louder it gets and vice versa). It's possible it could have been accidentally turned on. Drives me crazy, one of the most pointless features in a car IMO.

Yeah that was one of the very first things I checked. Mine is always on "off".

Yeah also not sure, I've never tinkered with it since I've had the car (almost a year), and like I said it started acting up randomly so I don't have an explanation.

And yep, I'll just let it slide until it happens again I guess.. That's about all I can do, but I heard the stock HU in this car is complete garbage.

Very strange I'm the only person to ever have this problem, I guess that is what tweaks me out.

Really? That is a possibility, but why would it work for almost a year, then not work for a month, then work for a week, then not work again.. It isn't very consistent.

It still works right now but the radio is SUPER quiet even when max on the HU.

sounds like a wire is shorted somewhere, when I had some nice subs they went out randomly a couple times and finally figured out it was either a wire shorting to ground or the amp was up too high and going into protection mode. I forget. but give me a call tomorrow, I get out of work at 4pm maybe well hook up.
