RAP ignition

Hey all, been lurking for a bit, getting tips on stuff you guys have run into. I'm setting up a carpc in my 2009 lt, and I'm a bit grey on where is best to try and hook into ACC so that I can have my power supply boot the computer. I have read about the yellowish white wire that is supposed to be RAP. I've also read that either wipers or sunroof fuses can be used, but that requires powering on other things in the car due to going forward one more notch on the ignition.

So I've taken a photo of my fuse layout, and am wondering what you guys think. My goal is to power on the PC with one click forward on the ignition from off. I'm guessing that 17 is usable?

Thanks for the reply Emp. I'm kind of having a preference to do the fuse tap, so I got around to testing out all the fuses with the meter. So, if anyone else is looking to do this, this is what I found. In this particular layout, there are only 2 fuses that show 12v while in ACC. They are the sunroof at #20, and window rap at #17. All the other fuses, including Wipers, either run 12v all the time, or only when in the ON position. I have confirmed opening the door when testing in OFF position to verify that RAP is not sending power, making it look like 12v is always running.

8 should also be a 12v switched output with the key.

AMP, RDO, and XM/ONSTAR should work on ACC as they are connected to the radio components.

I got my carpc installed finally, and ended up running the amplifier and carpc's remotes from 17, and it works like a charm.

Welcome to the club cmotors!

What did you end up going with for case etc?

hmmm, looks like i missed this when i used my multimeter, so on first click your carpc comes on, if u turn the key then to the off position, the stuff is still running, UNTIL you open the door?

WTF if this is the case WTF was I thinking!?! LOL

ok ok so as it turns out.....

in my case, base 07 model. there ain't jack i can do besides a fully custom job to the door pin to emulate RAP.

Thank you Warren. I went with a 4th gen mo-co-so case, a zotac9300 d-e motherboard, a celeron e3300, 2GB 800mhz, and 160gb 2.5" sata drive. My front end is riderunner, and the LCD is a Lilliput 701 7" touchscreen. I was originally going to run the audio through the stock head unit temporarily, but found it would've taken me longer just to come up with a method to get that to work. So I bit the bullet and got an amp and a couple of speakers for the back. If you are interested, I have a write-up with pics on the mp3car site, which I have posted under the same name. I haven't updated it with the final steps, but they have been completed. Just have to get around to posting it.

Hmmm... now you've got me thinking with your question about power and the door. I ran both amp and pc remotes to 17, and I'm trying to remember if my amp stays on until I open the door. Now that you've asked me, I'm not so sure. I'm gonna have to check this.

Ok, so I couldn't wait and had to go check it out, lol. To confirm, when I move the ignition one notch forward to ACC, my pc and amp activate. If I then move ignition back to start position of OFF, the pc and amp retain the power for 10 minutes, or until I open the door. Whichever comes first.

Even my base 2005 cobalt had this same feature, at least where the stock radio was concerned. I didn't install or test anything in that car, so I can't say beyond what the stock radio did.

right but that rap feature is done thru gm lan. the only way to replicate it is to find something else that has rap and tap that... normally the sunroof and wiper work great but in cars without power window/mirrors they are acc instead. So the next best thng would be to look for that rap wire and see if it has rap or not, i really dont know
