Rear Deck Speakers

Has anybody tried installing these speakers (or any others from Polk Audio) in their Cobalt? I'm thinking of replacing my factory rear deck speakers, and these seem like a really great deal:

I have the factory Pioneer Audio package, and just installed a new Pioneer head unit over the Christmas break.

Damn, wish I would have seen those a week ago.

Anyways, those run at 4ohms.
OEM Pioneer amp runs at 2 ohms.
If you run those off of the factory amp you will lose power from them.

Considering your new head unit has a 4ohm internal amp that is sending to the 2 ohm factory before the speakers, I would instead invest in new amps and running your speakers off of the RCA's > new amps > speakers.

4ohm head unit > 2ohm factory amp is a restriction to the speakers that is going to cause distortion and clarity reduction.

this is correct but incorrect at the same time. The impedance (ohm) of the stereo doesnt make a difference when you have an amp connected. With an inline amp the radio is signal and nothing more. However depending on how it was installed is going to be the determining factor on the distortion. If you are using the new radio's speaker wires going straight to the amp you are feeding it high level voltage when it is only made for line level voltage. If you are giving it the proper line level voltage by utilizing the RCA preouts then you shouldnt have anything to worry about .

Getting a new amp or doing an amp bypass utilizing the radio's internal amp may still be good options however if you are going to do so you will want to replace the front speakers as well due to the tweeters specifically

polks tend to be very average. not amazing but not horrible

EmperorJJ1- When I installed the new Pioneer head unit, I just connected the speaker wires in the wiring harness to the speaker wires on the back of the head unit. Is that what you're talking about?

Sorry, this is all rather new to me...

then ya u are using high level inputs. This isnt a problem as long as you arent blasting it louder then it would have been "stock"

The easiest option will be to find 2 ohm speakers to replace the rears. The best option will be to do an amp bypass and replace both fronts and rears (with or without a 4 channel amp). and the worst option would be getting 4 ohm speakers and replacing the stock ones with those

Yeah, I don't really like to listen to my music too loud anyway.

Has anybody done a "how-to" write-up on doing an amp bypass?

They Emp while you're at it is it possible to fit the Pioneer Pro 6.5'' speakers in the door? Their 5.8'' deep I believe.

not bad probably will sound about the same or slightly better then the polks (comparing apples to apples, obviously the 2 ohm compared directly to the 4 ohm is a big difference)

Those infinity reference speakers are well worth the money. The sound is very crisp and clear. I would definitely recommend them!
