Recommend some decent audio equip for $300

Alright heres the deal, my girl is lookin to purchase a sub and an amp (box included) for her 2005 Lancer ES. Shes lookin to spend about $300 max. What can you guys recommend for her in that price range?

She will be running the stock headunit so I also need something that will give her the rca outputs. Looking for a decent sub(s)/box and amp for $300. She listens to all types of music but I'm sure she'd like a little bit of pounding so nothing thats strictly quality bass with no thump.

And yes I do realize this is not alot of money for audio but this is for a person that doesn't know any better so no need to break the bank.

Best Buy always has the sub/amp/box combos in their weekly ad for around that price but you're getting what you pay for

serious suggestion? i'd look into one of those sub/amp/box all in one units. they usually add just enough bump in the back without being obnoxious

Damn. I have a nice set up from when I traded in my truck, just sitting here. But it was quite a bit more than $300 total.

Check out those pioneer 12's, they sound pretty good at a decent price, something like TS-W306DVC which can be had on ebay for like $60. Then look for an amp that runs around 400 watts RMS x 1. Should be able to find something like this for $150 or so.

The annoying thing to do on a budget is the box - either go to best buy and spend $90-$100 on a box or order it from crutchfield for $40-$50 and pay $30 to ship it.

how lame do you think something like this would be? I've never heard of the amp but it pretty much comes with everything I would need.

2 Pioneer subs + amp + enclosure

Oh yeah Vendian, hook me up with your employee discount

Not sure - I've never been one for bandpass boxes like that, nor two subs since I like to at least have some trunk left. I've never heard of that amp, you might want to pop on over to the forums at sounddomain.com or elsewhere to do some searches. I'm sure its over rated but it'll probably still put out enough juice for those two subs.

One of those subs in a medium sized sealed box with the right power sounds good though.

Personally I would avoid bandpass boxes. They are loud, but the quality is not so good.

I like sealed down firing boxes. You get less rattles/vibrations in the car and you can use a little smaller box to get the same response as you would a larger front/side firing.

You need wires either rca or the conversion..You need wiring kit, power, ground, remote turn on. Then your sub and amp and box. Gets pretty expensive. And depending on the car it might sound worse then it does now if everything vibrates. Car audio can get pretty expensive.

so get a new head unit with it? io want to get the doubble DIN touchscreen one i think pioneere makes, and then get a sub setup when i get some more money, just a cheap but flashy one like that link, then later on sell it to a friend and upgrade.... 90% of the sub setups around here have been passd on inside my circle of friends and still push hard.... no JK u could get a sub set up sell it for 400.... 2 years later your friends little brother will be bragging about some subs he got for $25 and a set of rims and itll be your old set lol

The amp is sound storm. They are trash. They are right above that legacy crap you see selling on ebay 1000W for 40 bucks. It will be pretty underrated, I would guess atleast 200 wRMS from what it says it will put out. So at 2 ohms it would be giving you around 600W if that, and they want 800 for the pair.

Also, band pass boxes need to be custom made for the speaker to sound good. That box looks like it is prefab so the specs for those speakers may not be accurate. Your enclosure has more to do with how your setup will sound than the sub itself does. If a ported or bandpass box is not tuned correctly it will sound like a wet turd and can be damaging to the subs. The only prefab box I would ever buy is a sealed one, but I also like sound quality more than SPL.

ok well then nevermind on that other suggestion, not lookin for any legacy, jensen type crap. Well what about my original suggestion above? These both come from reputable companies.

The only reason I'm lookin at an already put together setup is because boxes are such a rip! I just can't see myself paying $60+ for a box of wood/mdf. But I guess I can get one decent sub for like $60...and older model but still good. A decent amp and then spend the last $80 on the box. But then I'd still have to get the wiring kit and the rca converter thing...I can't even remember the name but I have one in my car wired into the rear speakers from when I had a sub and amp in my ride.

I can't tell you much about those subs. I have never heard them personally, and I don't know if they are an SQ or SPL sub. Spec wise that seems to be a good match. Pioneer is a good company so the amp should be rated close to what they are advertising. I personally like to over power subs a bit, and then just be careful about gains and volume. The only reason for that is so that if you ever go to upgrade you have a little bit extra power, and most well built subs can handle a little extra power.

To be honest though a little power here and there will not make a noticable volume difference. For SPL you need to double the power every time to get +3db. So you can see that 50W or even 100 W too much or too little will not make much difference in volume.

sorry guys..circuit city sucks. if your looking to get it installed...dont let them do it. im a MECP certified installer and they totally fucked up my boys H3. i personally would go to best buy and get those box/amp/sub deals. they put out some good ones. i saw a whole alpine set up for about 300. thats insane. if she doesnt need that much bass. i would get alike a rockford sub DVC, a decent amp that pushing about 200-300rms. and you will be fine. checkit out

Infinity BassLink or Basslink X (and if you want more boom, a basslink II. there all in that range, all in one set up, and sound extremely good. You will not be disapointed. I put one in my G/f's car and she is happy.
