i like how they put the nuts for the box way back in those little holes, but how the hell am i supposed to get a ratchet back there to get the screws out? Is there an easier way to get this sub box out, i have my after market HU in and the sub dont work no more so i wanna take it out. any help

7/8 deep socket will work. took me like an hour to get it off with out the deep socket.

I believed I used a deep socket 10mm, only took me like 5 minutes to get that thing out of there, just make sure to unclip the wires at the top of the box or you're going to tear them.

10mm Deep Socket with at least a 10" extension for the ratchet.

And use the smallest drive you have, like a 1/4 drive or else the socket wont fit.

yes, 10mm. extensions are your friend. i used two extensions together b/c they were short and a 10mm socket. then uplug the wiring harness. vioula.

I tried putting an aftermarket sub in the box and the magnet was too big, anyone mount an AM sub in the stock box?

I dont know how good any AM sub would sound in the factory box. It is made of plastic and will sound hollow. It also is way too small to sound good with an AM sub. Plus you would also have to run an amp on it because the stock subwoofers amp is most likely putting out something like 8or 10 ohms.

True it would sound like **** but atleast it's better. I'm not into rap so i don't need a "bangin" system, I wanted to mount it in the factory box just so it looks clean still.

you can put an aftermarket sub in your box. you need to get a dremmel and alter the back of the plastic box where the magnet is though. this would allow a bigger magnet to be put in the box. you can either hook the sub up to the factory wiring, or you can install an amp. an amp install is pretty easy considering the battery is right in the trunk. there was a guy on the cobalt ss dot com forums that did this...try searching around for it. i think it was like kellyperformance or something.

well...i got the box out lol..now the problem is that i dont have a long enough philips screwdriver to get the 6 deep a** screws out...im leasing my cobalt.i wonder if i dremel out the back of the box chevy will notice? i doubt it but u never know

I could draw up a design and specs for a box that will replace the factory box and post them later for people that are interested, l could also write a letter to JL Audio and ask them to make a stealth box for the cobalt.

im starting to think that i would just be better off with getting a sub box...considering im gonna have to buy a dremel tool.. /sigh i didnt wanna have to do that but i guess i could use both the subs now

You don't really want to do this anyways. He is telling you to cut out the back and if you do this it will not be an airtight box any more. That will make you sub basically free air and sound like poo. Unless I misread what was being said, or unless the back of the box is for some reason contained in its own air tight seal for some reason as well. I don't really have any idea where the ss has thier subs because I have the LS. But anyways...

If you want you can just make extentions. Cut rings out of MDF and use some elmers wood glue to put them together ( you can then use body fill to make sure ther is no air leaks if you want but you don't really have to. I would just because it would smooth it out to make the box look like a solid piece. ) Keep staking them until you have atleast 1 inch behind your magnet. (you need atleast an inch behind your driver but 2 is usually what is recomended.) So if you just keep making rings our of 3/4 inch MDF you will be able to make space from the front rather than cutting a hole in the back.

Also, it is not good to use two different types of subs in your car. It is not even good to use the same sub connected to two different amps in a car, or two different size subs. They are very hard to frequency match and phase match. If you have two subs that are not exactly in phase with each other you will get sound canceling and it will just do more harm than good.

thanks for the reply...im just gonna buy a ported box for my audiobahn sub..and i have an amp lined up.but as far as havin the 2 diff subs in there..it wont bother my audiobahn will it? i doubt it since the factory sub is like 200W at the most lol
