Replaced my Stock Speakers!
I just installed my 4 speakers to replace the stock ones. For the doors I put in 6.75" Kenwood 1789ie's (had to drill four new holes), and for the rear I put 6.5" Alpine SPS-170A's.
I replaced the 6x9's with 6.5's because I figure if I add a sub in later, it would make for a better setup with 4 mid/high speakers and then a nice low sub for the bass.
All I can say is DAMN, I love these! I can't wait to install a new H/U to make them sound even better. I plan on getting the Pioneer DEH-P4800MP, anyone have this and want to comment?
Thanks!

not really a fan of the Pioneer head units. let me explain quickly, my roommate and i both bought new head units a couple years ago. we both spent $280, he got pioneer, i got an alpine. he was pissed that his didn't have the features mine did and didn't sound as good.
FWIW, i'd go with an alpine of the same price.

alpine is the way to go, and i live by thier decks.... had 3 now, and will have 3 more... amazing sound quality, as well as control, i can adjust every perimeter on the equalizer right from the deck, as well as control the subwoofer volume, independently from the rest of the speakers. Yes, they are on the pricey side, but I have not had one problem with Alpine, and I suggest them to everyone.

Yeah, I'm a bit on the fence.. I've heard good things about Pioneer and good things about Alpine, and the opposite for both. I like the Pioneer's look better than Alpine's, so I may just go with them.. I'll shop around though, see if I see an Alpine one I really like in my price range.

the new alpine ones have 1 wire ipod hookup, which is nice, no more 100 box converter thing, just 30 bucks for the wire, and it shows the name of the songs, info, and you can change songs right from the cd player..... pretty sweet id have to say

Go alpine. I install all this **** for my job and alpine has more to offer then pioneer. There screens are sick as well as some pioneers. The ipod/sat interfaces are better for them as the just sound much better. I'm re doing my system too but yet all alpline. Type-S 6.5 Component Set, 6x9 Type-S, 12" Type-R, Alpine 600RMS Mono amp, then the new alpine double din. Check that shitout...go alpine.

I was thinking about upgrading my stock speakers as well to complement my Subs in the trunk, I was going to get either Inifinity's or Polks, because they sound better IMO

Dude def go witht he poineer but wouldnt recommend goin with the 4800, id at least go with the 5800. You cant beat all the custom eqs poineer has and how easy they are to use. Alpines are great dont get me wrong but they dont have as good rms rating and id only get one if u have a couple hours to go throu the manual on how to actually use it haha.

check this out, I have an alpine headunit, infinity kappa 6.5" and 6x9" internals a pair of jl audio 8W3s and an pair of 12W6 V.2s, also a planet 1200w mono amp, 300w 2ch. amp, and a 400w 4ch. amplifier to power everthing. next on the list is an optima yellow top, and to dyno-mat EVERYTHING!

06 SS with the Pioneer Avic Z1 (NAV/DVD), Polk Momo 6 1/2 component (MMC6500)(doros and reardeck), Polk Momo C400.4 (4ch amp), Polk Momo C500.1 (mono amp), and 2 Polk Momo 12in subs (MM2124)
PS: Car audio my job... Alpine is good and old Alpine was great but now Alpine is all display and flashing lights not about audio. Go Pioneer if you want a good radio but if you want a great radio look at ECLIPSE (FUJITSU TEN) (Not the low-end radios they suck but the midrang and high-end radios)

Ipod
Anyone know how to wire an ipod to the stock system in a cobalt, or can at least point me in the right direction. I am looking to avoid the FM transmitter route. Any help would be appreciated.

As of right now there is no ipod hookup available... if u need to use it with ur factory best FM transmitter out is the icarplay by monster that charges and plays it, BUTTT it was have the digital readout so u can tune it to any station.

there are wired fm transmitters, i just got one for my dvd system, as it is in the trunk, and my ainet is already taken by my cd changer, it was like 20 bucks on ebay, there is a big dif. in sound quality as it is not wireless, plus in-between the deck and the radio antenna, and has like 7 dif. channels you can use.....
