RPD install in sedan. Second ever done?
I am installing an RPD in my sedan and thought I should make a fresh new thread for other's reference.
I picked up a used RPD that didn't come with the body side connector.
Here's an old post that lists the part numbers for the female connector, pins, bcm pinout etc. VERY GOOD INFO!
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-1...5/#post2893639
To make it fit my car I picked up a ZZP coupe pillar. I have my sedan pillar + coupe pillar at a guys place who is grafting the two together. To me this is the hardest part because I do not have fabrication skills.
To wire it all in I am going to go with the way the factory did it. There are easier ways that would likely work just fine but I am going to go ahead and do it like the factory does.
To do that I am going to be running 6 wires to the BCM. To follow the factory way of doing it I must intercept the GMLAN at the BCM. It will go BCM>RPD>*will fill this in after looking at a schematic* but basically the GMLAN is daisy chained. That means if you unplug a device in that chain then nothing else will work. That's how they built it.
I did a bench test and just ran the in+out together to the OBDii port and it worked fine. This would be the easiest place to tap in for the info it needs to work. The other 3 wires are just 12v constant, 12v switched and ground.
Here's a picture of my completed harness. I just need to put it in some sheathing and wire it into my BCM.
ALL the information you need to buy the right connectors + wire one of these in properly is in this thread:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-1...er-rpd-133625/
Here's an older thread about a guy who built his own pillar:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/appe...-sedan-272472/
I put the coupe pillar on my sedan and sure enough it's shorter and the part that goes on the headliner is a slightly different shape.
When I'm all done I will have the RPD + factory boost gauge in the pillar.
In my cluster pod I will have an AEM wideband + Interceptor.

I wish there was a step by step how to im a little discouraged. I have one sitting in my garage waiting to be installed in an 09 lnf. Im about to hunt down an entire wire harness I just have the pigtail part of the dash harness where it connects.

Thanks! I really like it!
I can see what others have said though, after the honeymoon period wears off i'll find a favorite screen and it will just sit there forever lol.
I have a feeling it's going to be speed on the main screen + air temp/engine temp/fuel pressure
Side note: I have read several people saying the RPD showing no knock but an interceptor or hp tuners showing knock. I was getting lots of false knock today when barely touching the throttle until I installed this then I couldn't get it to knock at all!
Go figure. I have to wonder if the RPD filters out the false burst knock where hptuners / interceptor does not.
I will be increasing low rpm timing to induce real knock and see if the RPD registers it, then go back to normal timing and see if the false knock shows up when it does on the interceptor.

I would smack the pedal as fast as I could. I mean so fast that the engine would barely blip up in rpm's and like clockwork I would get alarms on the Interceptor and am certain it would log with HP tuners if I were logging.
I'm really starting to think the RPD doesn't show burst knock but will only display real knock. If only it would flash the whole screen or something when knocking to alert the driver. I have yet to see any knock on it so maybe it does. I do not know.
My next test will be to add a bunch of timing to induce knock and see what happens.
EDIT: I'm going to stop worrying about knock soon as long as it doesn't happen under load.
No I am not, I have to work. Thanks for the props!

I have a theory.
A few days ago it was alarming me on the interceptor a lot.
I could go miles with nothing then one aggressive stab of the throttle *even if only for a second* would trigger it.
After it was initially triggered it seemed a hair's input on the throttle would trigger it again and again and again for a period of time.
I could trigger it by pressing 1/4" on the throttle while cruising. Hold it in that spot then it would just go away after a second or two.
I think once the ECU thinks there's going to be knock *burst knock* it then stays super sensitive to burst knock for a predetermined period of time........
I have never seen a single degree of timing being pulled on my logs during these knock events and I have never seen a bit of knock on a wot run once it gets past the initial tip in knock if it even does that knock.

Theres usually a couple degrees of kock you will see as you get into wode open throttle. Its pretry normal and its probably not actual knock. These cars have noisey engines. What you dont want to see is knock at wide open throttle
