looking for a double din that fits the cobalt that has all factory options but adds backup camera, video/audio playback from an hdmi source i.e. my phone . nav and a hard drive for storage. pretty much every option is wanted

crutchfield doesnt have anything that does not get rid of my info center on my dash. but ive got the interceptor gauges so its not too big of a deal

What info center..?
The DIC is below the tach, which Crutchfield confuses on the Cobalt for some reason.
Most double DINs should fit, regardless. Just need the right dash kit.

I don't really think there is any head units that have HDMI hook ups just USB. Best bang for the buck in my opinion would be:

AVH-P3400BH - NEW! - 2-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 5.8" Widescreen Touch Panel Display, Built-In Bluetooth®, and HD Radio™ Tuner | Pioneer Electronics USA

I'd say that head unit is better than my AVH-P4300DVD

I have the AVH-P1400DVD that i picked up about 3 weeks ago and it is awesome. The whole series is new from pioneer. I got it cheap from best buy for $279.95.

Not bad from the MSRP.
Do you have anything setup for steering wheel controls? And Video ByPass?

I didn't get the steering wheel controls which isn't a big deal but would have been nice. The video bypass I still need to hook up but I've been enjoying the unit otherwise. Im probably going to hook it up to a switch in the end.

I used them quite a bit when I had my stock head unit in, but I suppose I don't miss them as much as I thought I would.
Let me know how you do the bypass, I was going to buy a $15 thing to wire in, but the switch seems like a more cost effective option.

ya it's pretty straight forward for the most part. Just find a 12v source and just connect the switch. You can hide it in the coin pocket on the driver side. You could always run your own power wire with a inline fuse from the engine fuse box to that spot. That's what I plan on doing in a week or two. I can snap some pictures of what i looks like when I am done.

You're gonna need to splice into the ground wire from the radio harness too, aren't you?
Line from engine fuse box would look unclean. Maybe from the box inside the car and wire behind the dash..

I already have retros with the HID relay harness coming off from the box so it wouldn't be that bad looking, just another wire coming down the side. Problem would be trying to snake it through the firewall without making it look crumby. I will just splice the wire off from the ground wire from the GMR13 adapter.

buy a two pole switch and hook one side to the parking wire from the HU and the other side to ground. no 12v needed

I need to tap into the ground wire from the radio's harness for that, correct? How would I go about doing that?
My parking wire from the radio is currently untouched.

radio shack will have the switch i bought mine from there. they have a few diff sizes of the 2 pole but watch out for the 3 pole switches its just more hassle and more chance of problems down the road.

you can attach the parking wire and when u cut to length use the extra as the ground. or if u want it color coded any size black wire should work. no power is transferred thru it so really as long as it doesn't break it doesn't matter

i love my pioneer unit. has all the sheet. 2 years old tho. im not worried about it. newer stuff out there does the same thing only faster. Ive always liked the pioneer units vs kenwood etc, although kenwood has garmin based nav which is nice.

storage i have a flash drive attached to a usb behind the drivers side dash up by the gas pedal.

put your music on a flash drive vs playing off an ipod. sound quality is night and day.

remember to make sure to get a unit capable of handling a HD. if its smaller most should be able to but with a bigger 100g+ drive ull need more power. any size flash will work thou
