Sound System
I've helped install a few radios and Speakers before. Nothing has ever taken me 3 days to finish. Dont ever ever ever ever ever touch your sound system in a cobalt SS. Leave it alone.
The End....
The End....

OKay well I ordered everything off CrutchField minus the sub I got it from Sonicelectronix.
NVX NSW102 - Sub
Pioneer AVH-P8400BH- Radio
Polk Audio DXi650s 6.5"- Rear Speakers
Rockford Fosgate Prime R1675-S 6.75" Component Speakers - Front Speakers
Alpine MRV-F450 - 5 channel powering everything
This whole build has been arround retaining the stock look.
We pop out the old sub and slide in the new one. As expected it didn't fit. Even though we were told it would. So we spent 4 hours taking the box apart and fabricating it to fit the sub.
Rear speakers. Install went clean with the brackets but the rear "apillars" didn't want to go back on so easily. Spent 30-45 min ******* with them.
There is no amp bypass kit for this car. Instead of us spending forever how to bypass the amp we decided to just run new wiring. We got the door panels off and took the front speakers out. The components did not have a bracket to "fit" into the stock spots so we had to fabricate 2 out of plastic. We weren't sure about making new brackets so we reused the stock ones. The Screws were to long and had to dremel them down. Then the door didn't want to go back on.
We went to wire the Radio up and are now trying to decipher which one of the harnesses we need to use and where to heat shrink the wires together. Nothing has gone in the way it should have. We have had to modify everything in the car.
It's just a big pain in the ass to keep it looking stock with aftermarket stuff that is claimed to "fit"....

I installed door and rear deck speakers, and a touch screen pioneer.....it wasn't bad at all, took like half a day. Also, you can get an adapter harness to keep your steering wheel controls.

Did you install new speaker wires. We didn't use the ones that were hooked up to the Stock speaker. We ran all new wiring. I also installed an aftermarket 5 channel amp.

08...I'm just going to take it to a professional. I'll pay the 300$ to have everything done right. Aughgh.
The guys we called from the PAC harness said you have to use the Factory Amp to get the wiring harness to work....I thought it was BS but my buddy who is wiring up seems to think they are right.

to get the steering wheel controls to work?
in an 08 the chimes are produced by the radio. so if u get a module harness u have to utilize the factory amp for chimes unless you wire in a separate speaker for just the chimes. mind you this is only for the sound and by no means does the factory amp do or control anything other than the reproducing the chime sound

I don't care about the door chiming if I leave the key in. I've never locked my keys in my car. (knocks on wood) I just want to be able to use cruise control and change the radio station from the the steering wheel.

cruise control works regardless of radio situation. steering wheel controls work without the amp but need to be wired properly
where are u at now? sorry this thread is all over the place. is the radio installed? does it turn on? does it play? what if anything isnt working with the radio?
what steering wheel control interface did you get? brand and model?

I don't know, I have to have my car now. I need it for work. My buddy put something back together. I don't know what he's done. I don't want to deal with it. It's been to much of a headache, I'm plenty pissed to think paying someone $500 is a good deal right now.
