Man dude , sorry to say the Tahoe HU will not work . Have u tried to install it yet in your car ? With its flater face , it shouldnt even fit the Cobalt bezel . The HHR HU I have will go in the dash ok , but it wont fit the bezel . Like I said in my intial post , I made the same mistake by trying a HHR HU first . Thank god I only paid 50 bux for it .

All the GMT-900 SUV's , GMT-900 trucks , Saturn Vue and Ion , HHR , Solstice and Sky , Impala and Monte Carlo will not work in the Cobalt . All of the black tie radios are unique to the models they come from because they get specific info from the body control module to operate . And in the Cobalts case , the outer face of the radio is unique to the Cobalt only . Its curved much more than any of the other HU's .

I listed the part # for the 2 male connectors with wire leads that plugs into all black tie HU's in the post right above yours .

Same here. I also want to see how the HVAC swap works aswell. I've been wanting to swap mine to the black ones. I hate the silver.

SilverSS/SC look i'm not doubting you man sounds true about the fitments of the black tie radios but if fits on mine and everything when i tried installing it at first i tried with the screws and everything and it fits i'mm take pictures and post them up the only reason i didn't connect mines is because the connectors which i wrote in the post earlier i'm in the mix of buying it but my friend tried with the power connector at his shopped and it turned on and everything.

If im not mistaken don't you have to have the radio programmed to your VIN? I think i heard somewhere that the stock radios are programmed to the specific car and you need to take it to the dealership to have it reprogrammed if you buy a different stock radio.

Its proving to be .

I think I know whats not letting the radio connect to Tech 2 , there is other things that go thru the GMLAN data wire that are functioning ...it does communitcate with the BCM , so its not the data wire . I think I caused a problem , but I dunno . When I was making a pig tail harness I accidently touched the positive wire to the negative post on the radio , it sparked and blew the radio fuse . I replaced the fuse , the radio tuned back on like normal , screen said locked , onstar still worked , the 6-disc still loaded CD's . I figured I did no damage to the Radio , but maybe I did . I even took the radio apart to look at the circuit board to see if their were any visible signs of something burning . I think I fried the antenna module ( mounted in the radio) with my *** up . The scan tool says 0 voltage for the antenna module . No voltage there , it wont let the radio fully turn on = no communicato = no unlock .

Catch 22 guys . I dunno if theres no antenna module voltage because of my ******* mistake ~OR , is there no antenna voltage because the 05-06 module is not compatible with the 07 module . I'm gonna go to the dealer and see where they have the factory HU's inspected for repair work , if it cheap Im gonna send mine in to see if the antenna module is OK . Im not buying another HU .

If the Antenna module in my Radio ends up being good ....the 07 HU wont work .

I like a challenge ... but this sux . Its so hard to find anyone that has slightest clue what Im talking about

Im doing that thru the Tech2 scan tool . Its called a vin relearn , the post I wrote after you posted explains why this isnt working .

Now that I think about it for a sec , the antenna module is internal to the radios , so it wouldnt matter if they were compatible or not . More and more thinking I fried the module in mine .

....yet another small update to what I posted last night . I finally got to talk to the electronics wiz at the dealer . I DIDNT hurt anything in the radio like I though . We were doing the Vin relearn wrong for the 07 HU , we were trying to reprogram like a 05-06 . The process is different than the 05-06 . For 07 u have to do a theft relearn which will encrypt my vin in the new HU , then take that info upload it on dealerworld , then dealerworld will download the needed info back into the scan tool to upload back into the Radio .

If that process doesnt work , the 07 HU wont work period . He seems to think it will go thru fine . The only glitch being , if my 2005 vin # would not be recognized as valid ...good possiblity there GM let the program only except 2007 vin #'s .

Who knows ...Will have a definate go/no answer tomorrow evening .

damn man are you just good with electronics or what? anyway sry i havent sent any info yet but i got a little discouraged by my trip to my dealership... i got most of the info uploaded on my other computer thou so i might just send it anyway... the shop forman at the dealership said its possible but theres no room for error and honestly he would only have a electrical engineer look at it.

I have been trying to map out a way to get this done in diagrams and **** since I bought my car back in June. My problem was I don't have all the wiring experience I felt I needed, so I didn't want to try anything...

Now that I know it is possible. I'm going to work on this as soon as I possibly can!!

Antenna adapter part #'s . You need 2 of them to get the Old GM style to the new .
Metra part # 40-GM10 .....takes Cobalt antenna to a motorola F style $14.95
Metra part # 40-CR20 ......take the motorla F to new style coaxial ( chrysler style ) $19.95

2007 GM radio male connectors with leads ( reverse harnesses that plug into the radio )
Metra part # 71-2104 ( this comes with both connectors ) $19.95

The dealer is the only place that can unlock the radio . PM me if your dealer cant figure out how . It took 4 attempts over a few days to figure out how to get around the normal procedure of reprogramming a radio . All the normal ways , the scan tool will not communicate with the Radio at all .
