Stereo Problem, looking for input

So, I have a 20906 LT, standard cd headunit, and 4 speakers. Systems been working fine up until a few weeks ago. Now, when i turn the car on, sometimes the door speakres work, and sometime they don;t. My rear deck speakers work all the time, but sometimes when the cars turned on the fronts do, sometimes they don't.

Should I be looking at speakers or the headunit as the problem? I'm really at a loss for this...

I dont really have hte money to do it, but I've been wanting to upgrade to a Pioneer double din head unit, and better quality speakers. Anyone have suggestions for brands or what all I'd need to keep my steering wheel controls.

Interesting you say speakers.. alot of the locals are thinking a connection went in the head unit cause the speakers just died like that... what would be the best way to trouble shoot?

if they go in and out its probably the speakers.... if the internal amp in the hu blows then its gone one shot

best thing to do is pull off the door panels and see what u see. could be broken tinsil leads on the speaker? the whole thing might be trashed. ect ect

ive seen more blown stock speakers then anything else in my life and i work at an amp repair shop

Understandable. I just turned the key on one day and suddenly only the back deck speakers worked. the fronts came back on one day, but have been gone all week.

just seems odd to go from fine to completely blown on two speakers at the same time, ya know?

true it is rare but about the same probability as the deck breaking. the hu has 4 discrete channels and none of them are linked what so ever. Ive learned that you cant rule anything out no matter how coincidental it seems

do u trust urself to pull off the door panel? if u think u can do that u would learn alot. i know a shop isnt going to pull apart any of your car for free be it door panels or pulling out the hu

I agree with Emperor...pull the door panels and get in the trunk and check the connections to the speakers themselves. Sounds like they may be grounding out.

checked the head unit today. The ohms were all over the damn place. 126 ohm reading on teh one lead, 8 on the next, then 7, then 139.

Gonna be replacing the door speakers with Memphis 6 1/2's and a Eclipse head unit.....
