sub help

im getting a new head unit for christmas so im gona go ahead and get a sub also. My question is im gonna get a 12" kicker l5 and my friend has one in his s10 and it blew out his alt. like 3 times. Now he has a capacier on it and i was wondering if i need one for my cobalt ss? Also does anyone know a good amp to go with this sub.

a sub doeasnt directly effect the alternator at all. Its the amp that makes the difference. also a capacitor is a drop of water in the bucket in comparison to the alternator... if he blew his alt 3 times there was something seriously wrong

thats what i thought but he assured me thats what it was, but what size am is good for our battery?

i started my system off without one, got a new battery (mine was not holding a charge) and it still was movin my volt guage a bit on most songs, bought a cap and now it really dont move unless i got the bass on +3. (sits on -3 usually)

not necessarily... it all depends one what your doing to be honest

for a kicker L5 a 500w class D would be perfect power wise and be ok on the stock electrical

i mostly just want to only have one sub and the l5 has the power i want and 2 of my friends sware by kicker

thats cool. they are good subs. not very "clean" sounding but they get loud
