So i got the metro 05-06 kit to run a pioneer unit on my car. The metro harness does not have the orange and orange/white wires for illumination and dimming though, which i found wierd because it says where those wires go on the back of the bag it came in. Im guessing i just gotta.cut the wires on my stock harness to run em direct to the pioners harness?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if I could use a Cobalt LT radio in my 2007 Cobalt SS with the Pioneer sound system? My radio stopped working and doesnt light up anymore so i was trying to find a replacement from an auto wrecker, I just need to know if the radio from the LT would work in my SS and still be able to use the OEM Pioneer sub?
Thanks!

if its from a 2007+ then yes it would work but its not optimal. You could however try swapping the faceplacte of the radio from that to your vehicle and that should fix the light up anymore portion but if the radio itself is bad then you would need to swap the entire thing. Just remember they are vin locked so you will need to get it reprogrammed at the dealer for however much they decide to charge

So Ive read this thread and still a bit confused. I have an 06 and have a pioneer hu, jl sub and amp I want to hook up but I still want to retain the steering wheel controls. What route do I need to go? Should I be getting the Metra 70-2103 harness? What do I need to do to retain the steering wheel controls
#482
steering wheel controls are completely seperate. You will need to buy a separate adapter to retain those so what harness you use for the actual HU doesnt affect that at all. Personally i prefer the PAC adapters as they tend to work the best
You need to also make sure your HU has a wired input. If so you want to get the specific pioneer input. Otherwise you have to use the universal one which isnt that great

PAC adapters for the hu or the steering controls? All this is a lot more confusing than my 96 s10 haha. So I need 2 adapters correct? Which ones do you ultimately recommend? The pioneer hu is last years model so its fairly new I duno if that tells you anything

i found the c2r-gm11b harness for 58 but im not sure what my other options are. How exactly do you figure out if your unit has the wired input? Im not real sure what you mean by that.
#489
yes that one has the wired input according to pioneer (under general)

Ahh youre talking about the remote input. So regarding people tapping into the wipers fuse is that somethin I will have to do for my setup? Im confused on how or if my setup will work along side the stock sub and amp that comes with the car. Not that im worried about losing it if thats the case.

As fas as tapping a fuse you will have to do that if you get a basic harness. The module harnesses decode the data and provide an ACC so you dont have to do that. Either way works and there isnt really a right or wrong, you either pay more for convenience or less for a little more install work.
lastly with the amp you should really give it RCA input for proper sound BUT giving it signal from the speaker wires works as well you just have to be more careful and loose out on the lower volumes.

Alright. Been searching for weeks. Hopefully you can help, Emp. I have an 07 Cobalt SS with the pioneer system but NO onstar. I have steering wheel controls.
I just picked up a Kenwood DDX471HD. Now, according to the OP, I would be fine with this harness to retain all of my stock stuff, correct? (in red)
"6.) I have an 07+ and need a harness, which one do i get?
Listed below are the expensive "module" harnesses for the second option look at question 7
Metra= non pioneer = GMOS-LAN-03
pioneer = GMOS-LAN-04 *retains onstar*
Pac= C2R-GM11 *without onstar*"
I want the car to stay completely stock with the exception of the new radio. So is this harness OK or do I need the GMOS-LAN-04? Any help is much appreciated. I'm just sooo tired of searching for answers and getting dead ends or half-answered questions.

amplified systems utilize low level signal to the amp. aftermarket HU's have line level output on the speaker wires BUT low level on the RCA output. The only difference is "volume" Think of a speedometer per say. Stock is 0-160 and line level is 60-220. The system shouldn't go over the max volume it originally had but you have the ability of doing so and messing up the system

theres not really a big difference. just different manufactures with different design/construction.
just personal preference. ultimately it depends on each unit but i had better success with the metra modules when i used to work at the car stereo shop.
the normal non module harnesses are generally all the same not much you can mess up with those but the modules there is alot more room for error in either the original development or manufacturing

so I've searched but can't really find an answer to my question....literally spent hours searching and no luck
I'm using the c2r-gm11 harness which has a 12v acc output but the directions state not to exceed 1a; if you need more wire up a relay (irritating...)
For my install I will not be using the speaker level outputs from the HU and in reviewing the HU manual it has a 10A max draw (7+ being the speaker level output).
Since I will not be using the speaker level outputs do I still need to run a wire to the fuse box for 12v acc or can I direct wire the PAC module 12v acc to the HU since the power draw should be significantly less (although, potentially greater than 1a)?

you realisticlly should be fine. Ive never had an issue with them and a HU that uses the internal amp. The main reason that is specified is because people will try to wire up all kinds of things to that and it causes issues with the module as its has to get the ACC power from the 12v constant. And it runs that through the internal board so theres only so much the traces can handle. With a HU it doesnt really rely on the acc to run it just to turn it on. It draws power from the constant
