UPDATED General Stereo FAQ - READ THIS!

Hey guys, I've read every post in this thread but I just wanna ask to make sure.
I have a 2009 Cobalt LT with Onstar. If I get the cheaper Metra 70-2202 harness I will just lose my door chimes, blinker sound, and Onstar? The reason I'm asking is because I've heard some people say that it also affects your airbags. How true is this? Are the airbags really tied to the stereo? I just find that a little hard to believe.
The Onstar I really couldn't care much for and I really don't care for the blinker sounds either since I never hear em anyways cuz I'm always listening to music.

This thread helped me TONS. I just placed my order with Crutchfield for the HU, wiring harness, antenna adapter, trim piece for HU... comes with specific instructions for set up/installation, too.
Maybe I'll be smart enough to figure it out without asking the hubby

I have a 05 Cobalt LS with the Pioneer audio and no onstar. The guy at Futureshop says I need "GMCO2L11 - GM radio replacement interface for vehicles without On-Star" which will cost $169.99. Is he right? If not what do I need and which part do I need to retain my wheel controls as that URL on the main post was unclear for me.

ok so i have a 07 ss/sc with pioneer w/o onstar. all 4 speakers were replaced with infinnitys and im tryin 2 put a kenwood dnx5120 HU in. i bought the cheaper harness metra 70-2202 and soldered all the matchin wires 2gether. 1st question i have 2 wires off the metra 70-2202 harness that are not wired up 2 n e thing, orange(which i believe is the illum. wire) and blue/white(amp turn-on) wat do i wire those to? i dont think i need 2 wire the illum 1 but wat about the blue/white amp turn on? also there from the HU harness the blue/white(says p.cont),solid blue(ant. cont),brown(mute), and light blue/yellow(remo. cont) are not wired to n e thing. wat wires need 2 b wired 2 wat? these damn aftermarket HUs r so complicated 2 install haha. sry if these ?s were answered i read through and did not see them. n e help is appreciated

Ok so let me get this straight. I got a 09 SS, and I was wondering what will not function if i get a aftermarket pioneer deck or dvd player with the "pioneer = GMOS-LAN-04 *retains onstar"? The facts page is little confusing. I def want to keep my bluetooth, and the Steering wheel controls would be nice to keep too. Also, was wondering if there was any new adapters for the 09s since they have a little more functionality? Sorry for the "noob" questions, there has been massive amounts of technology breakthroughs since my old days of car audio.

Hi, nice tutorial
I have a Cobalt ss/sc 07' with Pioneer premium sound without onstar. I will put a Pioneer Avic d3. I need a C2R-GM11 module, correct? This module in ebay say: Single wire output for steering wheel control module, What mean this? Also I need a antenna adapter?
Thanks.

pac audio makes the steering wheel controls that you can get for most pioneer decks (SWI-PS) or universal ones for the few pioneer ones without that function (SWI-X)
Bluetooth i don't know. i think a member said they did the swap to aftermarket without the bluetooth being effected but i honestly couldn't tell you. If anything most of the pioneers can add bluetooth so get the deck try it and if the bluetooth isn't retained then buy that module

in the pac unit the single wire output for steering wheel control module is there for the pac SWI interfaces. so instead of finding the steering control wire and soldering it and in the cobalt's case you have to make another wire acc. If u get the gm11 all u would need to do is connect the wire from it to the swi and done

I put a new HU, and put gmos lan 04. The door chimes is so hi, but if I increase a volume in gmos module the volume of the HU is low. What is your opinion?
If I don't resolve this "problem" I take off the gmos lan 04 and put a Metra = 70-2202. What is your recomendations?

ya you cant control the volume and chimes separately on the metra module harnesses. oh i havent had a chance to update the thread but if you decide to do it go with the 70-2104 instead of the 70-2202

I have an 07 LT and am taking a look around for a new headunit.
I have installed many after market HU's and I don't see why people are talking about tapping into a fuse for a power source. Does the cobalt wireing harness not allow direct plug and play? The last thing I want to do is buy a new CD player or DVD player and have to chop up my wires.
If I stick with a stock unit, how well do the in-line converts work?
