well i'm on my first reall sub enclosure thats completely custom and its quite a pain in the ass. I'm extremely mechanically inclined and the only part thats difficult is make sure that all the angles are perfect and the box lines up and is matched up . The different angles of my design are giving me a hard time. I got it figured out but it takin a bit. I had to get some more wood. I'm doin this one in all particleboard since I don't really need the custom molded face on this design. I'm doin my angles and difficult parts in cardboard then cuttin the piece I need before installin them. I'll post the design when I get it finished in the next day or two. I only had a half day to work on it and figure it all out. I changed my design like 5 times. haha

I used an epoxy, the front of the lip hit the curb and as I pulled forward the lip turned down and ripped the supports above it while the outer sides of the lip went up and cracked the kit near where it mounts to the fender.
I agree with you on the sub but if all I had available was Pioneer that would be the sub I would get. 3000wrms is impressive for that brand... 90lbs is not so much.

Keep it up Lambo! My first box took 2 months in the making(including tear down from the original design, rebuild, and glassing the inside).
I think the FS is in the high 30's which to me is horrible for a 15.

This seems like a decent thread to ask this: what is the state of Earthquake subs and Orion amps? Back when I was a teenager (oh how that makes me sound old), I had 3 10" Earthquake's (I have NO idea what model the were) hooked up to an Orion HCCA250 amp, and it was delicious! Are either of them still kicking? Are they any good still?

thanks for the motivation man! it rained today so i had to postpone further work till tmrw since cardboard, wood, marker, sawdust+ RAIN= big mess and mildew in the vehicle. Like I said, I decided against any glassing on this one because the sharp angles set this design apart from anything typical. Though I still do want to try some glassing. I'm thinking about doing some glass work on the rear deck and trying to angle the rear 6x9's forward. Anyone done that yet?

these other guys are better guru's than i am but in my experience those brands were decent although i have heard that earthquake has fell off a lot in recent years. nowadays there are many uncommon brands that can put out some good audio for a good price, it really depends on your price range and what your looking to do
Anyone for the guru's here happen to know what the EQ button actually does? Was it a built in cross-over? I found that it does this: "The EQ button adds 15dB of boost at 40Hz, 4dB cut at 200Hz and 6dB boost at 10kHz" I don't have a clue what any of that means.
Funny story time!! I once connected Big Red to my friend's subs with a passive crossover. The crossover melted and set a small fire to the back of my friends seat. I laughed.

I personally have never owned any Orion stuff but a few friends of mine have been through some. IDK the models but an entry level pair of 10's ran on a Pyle(of ****) 1500.1 hit pretty well in the back of a C4... I would guess around 135db or so. My other friend had 4 HCCA 15's in the back of a Blazer with 4 Sundown 1500.1 amps pushing 151.2 in an ugly ass SPL oriented box he built... His **** was ridiculous.
Also from what you posted about the EQ it seems it simply gives a bass boost...

WTF is wrong with people. If you have a POS 18 and a high quality 8 in their recommended box types the 8 will rape. It isn't about the size but about the quality... Yes cone area does account for a good percent of your air displacement but if you have an 18 with a 6mm xmax and an 8 with 30mm of xmax the 8 will be louder.

Air displacement is based on two parameters, Cone area(size of cone plus 1/2 surround) and excursion (distance between xmax which is how far out the cone travels, and xmin which is how far it goes in). If it is a huge cone that has a small level of excursion(like a PA speaker) it will be great for SQ and could get quite loud without much feeling (SPL), you take a small cone with a lot of excursion and you will feel it much better.

quick question, if i want a good SOUND as in mids and highs, what would be a good setup? i'd like to stay with kicker and at a reasonable price range. i am in the ballpark for maybe an amp for my mids/highs as well.

Honestly that is up to you man. If you want something that will sound good go with their entry level, if you want something that will sound good and can get loud get their better stuff. I really don't have much experience with kicker mids and highs.
