Using the factory XM antenna with an aftermarket XM unit
My first post... :P
First off, I would like to thank EmperorJJ1 for the (stickied) thread "UPDATED General Stereo FAQ - READ THIS!". You can't begin to realize how helpful that was for us '07 owners. In gratitude I offer my little project...
How to hook up an aftermarket XM receiver to the factory XM antenna.
Units I used:
XMDALP100 - XM controller unit for Alpine head units
XMD1000 - XM receiver
Parts you will need:
(1) 5m RCA cable - I used a Monster XLN 2 channel RCA
(1) 8-pin Mini-DIN extension serial cable - I found that old Apple printers used these. The cable can be found here: http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...=928&sku=09569. The part number on CablesToGo's website is 09569.
Steps:
1. Locate the stock XM receiver. This unit is located between the factory 6x9's ON the deck UNDER the fiberboard. You will notice the XM antenna wire coming down from the C-pillar. Remove the XM antenna from the receiver.
2. Remove the stock XM receiver from the deck and mount the aftermarket one.
3. Take a small screwdriver and remove the little white retaining clip.
4. Plug the co-ax cable directly into your aftermarket XM receiver. Trust me, the clip(s) aren't necessary. I've been driving around with my bass blaring for about a month now and it hasn't rattled free.
5. Plug the RCA and Mini-DIN extension cables into the aftermarket XM receiver.
6. Plug the other end of the Mini-DIN extension into the Mini-DIN wire that came with the aftermarket receiver. I wrapped the connection with electrical tape to keep it from coming apart afterward.
7. Hide your wires under the kick panels.
8. Plug the Mini-DIN and RCA cables into your XM controller unit.
9. Hide the XM controller unit in the dashboard.
10. Crank it up! :P
That's about it. Here's a picture showing the aftermarket and factory antennas just to show the difference.
FYI: My next project is to get the R.A.P. working with the non GM-LAN harness (the cheaper Metra one)...

Yeah. EmperorJJ1's post has the part numbers from PAC on there. They make good stuff. I don't know first hand though, but so far EmperorJJ1's been batting 1000 on his info. Check his sticky for the link. (I think I saw it in there. :P )
I assume you also have an '07? The reason I ask is that you list having the AEM intake and GMPP exhaust... how'd you get around the CEL's from that Secondary Air Injection crap? I'd like to get an intake and a Corsa exhaust but I havent fiddled with the SAI garbage yet. ;_;

I just shaved off the tabs on the inside of the factory connector. The plastic is so brittle that you can use a razor with little effort. My aftermarket tuner then accepted the clip w/o problem.

This question is for Gauner, or possibly Emperor. I am buying the Jensen VM9022 DVD player. Want to add the XM to it. Saw this post and think its now possible. Douchebag as the stereo shop says its not possible to do this because:1-The antenna wire isnt long enough to go up front (obviously dont need to now) and 2-no way to get a cable long enough to go from the deck all the way back to the xm box on the rear deck. I'm guessing there will be a cable going from the deck to an XM (possibly Terk) smaller box, and then from it to the larger XM box on the rear deck. Is that correct? What will I need to purchase to make this work and prove that it can to the tard at the radio shop?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Also, if you look at my pictures, I ran a wire from the aftermarket XM box (I put it on the back deck) to the Alpine controller unit (behind my head unit)... it was just a 9-pin serial extension cable. Don't knock the guy at the shop, it was a PITA for me to find an appropriate wire. I believe I listed the wires in my original post.
