A/V Guru Challenge System Design. $10k budget
well, i'm looking into pursuing sponsorship for A/V. I figure I'd hit up all the gurus here and see some configurations to pursue. I've been out of the stereo scene since the mid 90's
Rules for the challenge......
1.Would like to see a design to include in dash DVD must play DVD-r
2. onstar use and steering wheel controls.
3. all one brand for speakers and amp and head unit if possible.
4. low weight preferably.
5. no more than 23" in total sub diameters total (prolly 2 dual voice coil 10's). In other words 8-23" class competition
6. lets say a $10,000.00 budget.
Please no thread jacking.

If someone was to throw me 10,000 and say have fun in the car, I would finish my project car.
Pioneer Avic -Z2 with Bluetooth adapter, reverse camera, XM Navtraffic unit, and Onstar harness with Steering wheel control interface
2 headrest monitors.
2 pairs of JBL 660GTIs
1 JBL PX300.4 4 channel
1 JBL A3000GTi (1670 RMSx2 for subs)
2 JBL W10GTI MkII Subs (I personally would go with 12" subs though)
an extra battery and a extra Alternator
and a lot of sound deadener.

hu: Eclipse av5510, gotta love those high volt outputs eclipse goes with
door speakers and rear deck : Diamond hex series 6 1/2
Subs: 2 10" diamond D9's in ported box
amps:
diamond audio D3 500.4 for speakers
diamond audio D6 1200.1 for subs
2 optima yellow tops
big 3 grounding
nice wires and a clean instalation and you would have one helluva sounds system

yea i love the eclipse headunits, you cant find any decent headunit at reasonable price with those high volts anymore. and i love the new diamonds and JBL's. both good quality brands.

I like the eclipse units, but didn't think they had XM Navtraffic and bluetooth yet....(otherwise that would be my choice too) I liked the Avic cause I didn't need a IR beacon on the dash for steering wheel controls too. (direct plug into the unit back)
I have a car with Diamond D6 stuff, and I've heard D9 and Hex stuff and would take the JBL GTI stuff over it....Being Honest here, from my listening experiences, that would be my choice wether I had 10,000 or 200,000 I would go with JBL stuff. Just put more money into the install itself, not the equipment. (well maybe 2 more 12's and a Gti6000 instead of 3000, and the 3000 for my interiors...)

wow havnt seen you on here in a while kanabrewski, how have you been since HIN? 10 grand is a lot for a stero so you options are pretty much open. if you are trying to save weight then id advise not going with soundproofing. but if you dont care, then do it, its the best thing ever.

well theres 2 problem with this idea.
1 spl brands don't make head units and very limited speaker selections
2 10 spl subs sound shittier then normal. Id usually recommend 2 fi btls fully loaded with the daily option but the 10s aren't made to sound like anything but noise. next would be re mts but ive never herd anything less then a 12 so they might have the same issue.
What would be nice and crazy insane would be 3 DD 8s with a 1500w rms amp

I really don't know much about the subs, have heard them a few times but never had hands on experience...he did say he wanted to keep with the same company as much as possible....
We could always put out a RF system list for him, he has Amps with insane power, great subs, and decent interior speakers to choose from (and a few really good pairs too) and I think he might have a head unit or two if he wants all the same manufactuer....Emperor Do you have a List for him of RF stuff?

yes i could make a rf only system if you wanted but it wouldnt be that great for spl. if your doing straigt up competetion then rf subs arent goign to do justice.
maybe its jut me but it doesnt seem like the op has a good concept on what he wants. For pure spl you are going to spend 80% on the chargin system and nothing is goign to come close to matchign brands. SQ is the only place you might be able to run the same brand stuff but even then not everything will match (eclipse is the closest your going to get) Unfot you are far as hell away otherwise i could get a few demos for you. I 2 rf HX2s 8s in a ABC box that hit low as hell and was damn loud on 400w, SPL car is a ford bronco with 4 re mt 18s and 4krms or something around there, or you could here a work in progress spl car... lexus with cdts mids runnign a mcintosh amp and re sr 10 in a tline box
Oh and ss the reason why im really concerned with those jbls is because they are rated at both 800w and 3k rms. In all reality (IMO) i havent seen a 3k rms sub yet and i work at an authorized dealer for 2 companies that hold a giant portion of the workd records in spl (dd and re)... dds cool better then re so they might come close but 3kw is alot of power with that much you run into problems with voltage dropping, amps clipping subs breaking ect ect. and when you get that kind of power making something that will runn all day (rms) is going to take quite a bit of effort and bs that most peeps dont wanna do.
FYI 3krms at 12v is 250amps of current. So if your planning this in a cobalt and plan to run the system at full tilt for extended periods of time your sol because at this point the only one even close to being able to generate that power is me

if your alts are built you should be over 250 amps easy, No?
I never did say anything about it being easy either...but hey, I think much like my GTi 6.5's that are listed at 150 RMS and 500 Max, they would be happy in the 300 range...so those 10's should be happy with 1200-1500 and 2 of them should take 3000 ok. (besides, headroom is nice)
Can you make a Daily driver a SPl car? I don't think I could drive a car that sounds like crap....but I guess thats just me.
