Viper Alarm

Is this really worth it? I can get it for $200

Does any one have one? Pros? Cons?

I had the Viper 2 on my cobalt. Loved it. I had the sensitivity level up all the way. I was actualy getting in **** for something i did at work so i was standing infront of my Sgt. Major and my alarm on the remote started beeping. He thought it was a cell phone but i told him it was my car alarm. He looked out the window...only thing close to my car was a tank about 150 meters away...the vibration through the ground set it off. I recommend getting a fob that shows you what is being activated on the alarm...ie if someone opens your door...the door will open on your fob and so on.

it comes with the kit. I dont think it has it with the Viper alarm....but it does with the Viper II alarm. You get the basic sensors...ie. shock, door/trunk/hood open but then you have to pay for the other sensors...ie. tilt, glass break..and a few others. Well worth it.

I have one. Love it. Just keep the sensitivity normal or a little above normal but not way up or every car that passes by will set it off.

I would shop around for a better price than that. That's price would cover the unit and installation as some shops. The only thing that I've heard about the 5701 is that the remotes on the first production run would stop working. Hopefully Directed fixed it by now.

Are there any guides that show how to install these things with the cobalt? I can get Cobalt wiring diagrams and splice into ignition as easy as the next guy, but have no clue what implications it has on the stock alarm system.

nice ass alarm. probably the best non screen 2 way pager I've seen. the remote is straight up badass.

assuming I could ever get the guys over here to install me an alarm (I'm sure as hell not going to learn) the 5701 or 5901 are going to be my first pics followed by the compustar RF-P2W900

200 for the alarm only is a badass price

I wish some of you guys looking for alarm installs lived over by me, I'd love nothing better than do to that stuff. Anyway, all I've ever had is Viper and all my family members have had it also, and no complaints. As stated previously some of the first LE remotes had issues with dropping programming but it has been straightened out by DEI so you should have no issues there. Having the LCD screen is nice and also convenient since you can just look and see what part of your car was tampered with, but any 2 way page system is worth it, just so you can get notified on your remote if you are in the area.

I had a Viper 5900 Alarm on my old 2.4L Cobalt, and I absolutely LOVED it! I had the window automation, and it was great, but the only drawback was that it made both of the drivers switches auto up & down. The only way for them to be rolled down halfway, was a good fast finger on the switch to stop the window, or using the remote.
