want to add sub/amp and keep stock set-up
I know I should use a line converter. I'm wonder who has actually done this? how does it sound? thanks.

I have a MTX Thunder 8000 12" with a Rockford Power 300 pushing it. I am running the amp in 2 channel mode and have them each pushing one coil since my sub is dual voice coil. I had it like this in my 2003 Cavalier too and both sound fine. Use T-taps for the rear speaker wires to your line out converter. You shouldn't have any problems.

the back of the head unit.
A remote signal is a 12v signal that tells the amp with the headunit is in use. Look for a wiring diagram of the oem wiring harness and go from there.
in lamens terms the remote wire will conrol if the amp circuit is complete. if the remote has power the amp will turn on. if it does not have power it will not turn on. find a wire in the back of the head unit that has power with the head unit is on.

To the OP: you will have to get a remote signal from the fuse box. Most people tap the sunroof fuse (your car will probably have a sunroof fuse even if it doesn't have a sunroof).

I just ran a switch for the amp because i didnt want the subs on all the time heck i hardly ever use 'em. Depending on the amp i didnt even use a line out converter i just used high level inputs that came with the amp and tapped right into the rear speaker line. Sounds great!

remote wire?
I think your best bet would be to use the retained accessory circuit in the car that way when you shut the car off, the amp will turn off with the deck rather tran thekey. this will eliminate turn on thump also. the wire is a thick blue wire in the passenger kick panel. please test the wire but it should remain 12+ when you turn the key off until you open the doors. just a thought. good luck
