A cap only works if you have the current there to start with, if your drawing more power than your car can dput out then a cap is not only not going to help you but in the end put more of a strain on the electrical system.
At 2300 watts my system draws over twice what the alt can put out but no cap is going to help that, not even a Kinetik HC 1800 totally stoped the light dim, I have 2 of the big 3 done but have a feeling the 3rd isn't going to stop it either so I am having an alt built from the ground up by a local guy, its costly but the only way to get a 200+ amp alt for these cars, short of a problematic 2 alt setup.
If your drawing less than 105 amps then a cap might help, but IMO there just a plecebo, they make you think there working but really there just for show

I'm new to the upgraded stereo systems, so I'm just getting a few parts ready before I start mine. I have helped a friend with his, so I hope I know what I'm doing. This many be dumb, what are the big 3??

i had a similar setup in my 06 ss i had a p5002 rockford fosgate amp and 2 12" p2 subs hooked with a line level converter to the factory head unit. it sounded great except for the fact i had 500 watts bumping the trunk and almost knocking my spoiler off. rockford amps are underrated that same system was in my blazer and it blurred my vision. my point is 1000 watts is way to much for the trunk of any car you will hear a rattling tin can even with some dinomat a suv is like a bass tube anything will sound good but car trunks don't. if you do have to get over a 1000 watt amp you might have to get a bigger alternator and battery if its under 1000 i might get a cap depending on the car. caps do put a strain on the alternator but so do chevys auto headlights. it takes about 140 amps from your alternator to run a 1000 watt amp. and you need a good battery optima yellow tops are $200 and they are made for car audio. most car alternators are around 120 to 150. for a capacitor you need 1 ferrit for every 500 watts. you want an amp to mach the subs rms at least. some company's overrate the amps and some underrate them 1st i would find out how much power your alternator puts out then go from there

I only said it cuz you told me how hit and miss it was
For the big 3 I have the Battery grounds done (2x18" 0 guage grounds) and the Alt to block done (1 0 guage ground) and I have to do the Battery to Fuse box but I have the wire for it just trying to find time to pull the inside of the car apart and run the wire. Plus neatly hiding 0 guage under the carpet (without having it create a bulge) should prove to be fun.
Im going down the drivers side since my RCA's all run down the passenger side, but I have 20 feet of wire so I should be OK
BTW- Your's being problematic isn't like the rest of us, you work at a shop and do this for a living so if you have a problem you can fixit/have it fixed right away. I run into a problem and I'm dead in the water so to speak

Yeah that was the plan. I was going to zap strap it right to the stock wires, just picked up some 3/4" loom so I should be good to go.
Thanks for the offer I might take you up on that
One thing, I picked up some street wires power rings to match the rest of the terminals in the car, am I going to have an issue trying to get one of these under the post in the fuse box.
Heres a picture so you know what I'm talking about

ya that's not happening with those terminals spun. The first time i did it i had some 1/0 from a friends truck he had a ring terminal like that. with heat shrink and all but i hat to yank it. What you need is a copper lug that you will have to bend in a 90" i can take a pic if u need one i still have a short piece from that old 1/0
