What are your opinions?

Well here are a couple pics of my computer screen install. The actual computer is behind the monitor and i have no pictures of it as i just received my camera today and when i put it all in i only had the camera phone and the pictures were crap. I also wrapped some of the trim in a synthetic leather.

The Screen

Background

Trim over the Glove Box

Trim with the car computer buttons

And the trim with the dimmer switch and fog light switch

I also have a video of the computer but have not put that up on my host yet. will do that tomorrow when i get home.

Let me know what you think.

Thinking about redoing the center piece as i am starting to not like at as it did not turn out as clean as i would liked it to.

Next project is a custom box for the truck. Still in the design stages. Have designed 4 so far and then finding things i don't like so start all over.

The vinyl looks like crap, wrapped pretty poorly and just doesn't fit the car well

what all did you get for the computer? and is the stock system still installed?

and ya it looks a lil odd... the synthetic leather isnt close enough to the look of the dash to blend well and not different enough to stand out on its own

Hot chick, cool idea for the computer install..But I would have to kind of agree that the vinyl/leather doesn't look too well..Not too bad of an idea, but the wrapping on it needs to be a bit tighter

I would have to agree with the majority here, badass idea, the finish sucks... the vinyl looks really cheap and does not fit with the look of the car!!!!

with vinyl, first HEAT it and then stretch it.

when it cools, it will shrink and be tighter. but i think the gaps are too small to really do it well, you'd have been better with a nice textured painting.

Thanks for the input. It help in pushing me in the direction i was thinking about going. Plus with the pictures i noticed a lot of stuff that i can see normally cause of the lighting. As for the car being clean it will be when its finally done, untill then if its dirty oh well. Thats what happens when you work 55+ hours a week and your spare time is spent on projects around the house.

Here is a link to the video i took, its not the best but you can see some of what it can do.

VIDEO HERE

The board is a VIA EPIA MII12000. Running a custom lite install of XP pro. It has 512MB ram and a 60gig laptop HDD. If you want some site to find stuff for a project like this let me know.

Im into in about a grand total now. The board was around 200$, monitor was 250$, memory i already had, HDD was around 70$, power supply was 80$ i think, slot load cd rom was 90$ amp and sub i got for a killer deal 200$ Alpive V12 5channel and a JL 10 in a box. Then i am on my 3rd FM tuner havent found one yet that works good enough for me. Made my own wires.

Working on a sub box for the trunk for two 12"s then going to redo the dash. Picked up some primer and paint for the trim and will see if i like how it turns out, but going to have to make a new mount or something for the monitor so it looks nice.

No, its called CentraFuse. You can find it here. It is still in beta but if you register on that page you can request a SN ( always get it ) for unlimited use. The guy that is creating it is very responsive to posts on the forums and will do what he can to make people happy.

Centrafuse is freaking awesome!

I think your running the same system I have waiting for the mine.

120mmx120mm Via Nano ITX board w/ processor, 7" Wide touchscreen (i'm going with a Xenarc TVS though), 2.5" HDD, Panasonic Slot load CD/DVD, and various other goodies!

What model of power supply did you go with? I've heard great things about the OPUS brand.
Also, do you plan on installing a Powermate at all? I can't figure out where to put one in a Cobalt... they kind of have limited dash room, and I'd really like a rotary style encoder.

I should have had it installed by now, but lately my time is going into my R1 instead... spring is coming!

If you click HERE you can see the power supply that i have, and it works great. As for a Powermate not yet. I need to get the other stuff i have done first before getting more stuff. Plus I have found a few items that i would be able to integrate the steering wheel controls into the computer. After i get the speaker box done and get the computer relocated to the back then finish the center peice it will be time to hit the steering wheel or some other form of controls for the volume and what not.

...check out this!
Super easy and cheap way of doing the steering wheel buttons, as well as inputting other stuff into the PC...

Works like a charm for me!

Cool that is one that i have been really considering getting just because you can add so many things with it. Have you done anything other then the steering wheel controls?
