Where to get Stock Headunit Reprogrammed
I upgraded my stock 07 radio with the better MP3 capable stock 07 radio from another member here. I know it has to be reprogrammed and here is where I am having trouble.
The dealers here are feeding me BS. The place where I bought it from will charge me 180 dollars. Another dealer wants to charge 70 dollars. They both explained totally different procedures. I called both of them out and they said they weren't sure what the other dealer was talking about. BTW talked to service managers. Another (3rd) dealer didn't even know what I was talking about when I said my radio was locked.............. my god.
I live in Central PA, and I don't want to pay to change from one GM part to another. I hear it is a 5 minute process of re-writing the car computer and radio computer to match vehicle VIN and radio type.
So, does anyone have any advice?
Thanks folks. Love this forum.

I guess I should ask are there any Chevy techs or dealers on here that want to hook me up? I live in Central PA and travel to just north of Boston often, would prefer PA though. I would even pay 50 dollars, sure, but come on 180? I kind of would like my radio to work soon.

call a dealer man, see what they say, for some reason i dont see why you would have to have it "programed" though
i think we you mean programed you mean the anti theft code. which they prolly wont give you over the phone.

You are speaking of Theftlock, which yeah you can do it yourself. RDS radios are different and need updated by the dealer.

Yah you need to have it updated by the dealer to work with your car, the standard rate is one hour labor, some dealers may be nice and do it for half and hour which is the 50 bucks some have paid, depends on what the labor rate is in your area. 98 bucks an hour is the rate around here. It's a quick 10 to 15 min procedure and all it involves is hooking up the comptuer and clicking a few buttons but that what you have to pay since you don't have the tools to do it yourself. Sorry man, oh by the way sometimes so stereos are not compatiable when replacing with others, even reprograming will not work cause you'll lose some function or even amps won't work. I've never reprogrammed a cobalt radio, but when I did work at a dealership if I got the wrong radio from the parts department which I did often on the trailblazers even reprograming would not make it work. Good luck.
