Who's hitting what?

Thinking about starting a system soon, just wondering what decibels people are reaching in their cobalts and what their system is

Most people are hitting around 110s to 120s with a set of O.K. 12s. A few are the 130s range(I was close to 130s with my mtx thunder series 8000 15s on my 2000 watt Alpine amp but sold the 15s). I think EmperorJ is close to 140 at like 138 or 139 running a set of competition RE Audio XXX 15s and I think a 5000 watt RF Power Series amp. Pretty killer setup in his car.

I'm not trying to compete with my car or anything, I just have a lot of friends that do competitions so I was just wondering, I was thinking of putting a couple SA or PSI 10s or 12s in

If he runs a slanted box I see no reason why he can't fit it in there. Mine barely fit but it did fit with a slanted box.

Oh yeah, I mean I'm currently just installing a jl audio power wedge 12. I don't want any extra weight and the power wedge should be more than enough extra lil kick to sound good. The 15s were overkill, hurt gas mileage somewhat, and were just too heavy. I'd say only in a competition audio vehicle like yours would they be practical. Even then you can probably get an expensive set of 10s or 12s with killer excursion and a good set of magnets to hit as hard, especially with the amp you have.

I have 2 w6's in an enclosed box and my gas mileage is still doing fine. Still getting around 31mpg. Total weight of subs and everything has to be around 75lbs. Also doesn't help that I have ply wood in the back to support the weight of the subs lol so firgure around 90-100lbs total

Even in a non slanted box i only need the box to be 18 inches high. i have 19 and a half inches of room to fit the box. Just slide it in from the back seat.

Thats the plan of it anyway. Ill update on how it goes.

Why would it not be a good idea?

because a bigger speaker requires a bigger box. if you dont have enough space for that box then its counter productive. Also acousticlly theres no good way to fit those speakers. they would have to be firing up or down probably slanted as well

Shouldve listened to you. Got a 15" MTX Sledgehammer in a MTX ported and tuned box. Wouldnt fit in the trunk. No way possible to slide it in there. Just got it sitting in the backseat now

If your not in it for competion why worry about decibel rating? A decent set of 10's or 12's will pound the heck out of the car and you need sound dampening to control all the vibration in the cobalt or it will sound like CRAP.
I have two Alpine Type R subs in a sealed box (powered buy a sony XM-1S 500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms) in the truck facing the truck and have three full rolles of sound dampening in the car. I cant stick my head in the trunk cause it hurts my ears. This isnt the most expensive setup but it sounds good and has good solid bass.
