Wiring Harness Headache - Pioneer P8000BT

So, I ordered my hu from crutchfield and it didn't come with a wiring harness. Alright...so first off I looked at the install FAQ which recommends the metra 70-2103. I got my stereo yesterday, though, and I was eager to use it. So, I went to best buy to see if they had a compatible harness and they told me i'd need a 120$ metra harness.
This bestbuy tech guy told me about a car audio shop a few miles from my house. I called them, asked if they had a harness for an 06 cobalt, they told me yes so I floored it over there.
Okay i'm cutting this story short for everyones sake:
The tech at this audio shop said the metra 70-2103 isn't what I need, he said i need one of those CMOS gm harnesses for like 180$. I called crutchfield after this and they told me to buy this which I would get at half price (60$). Both crutchfield and this audio shop kept saying I would lose my door chimes and info center...but I had my factory stereo out and both were working. They didn't believe me.

I don't know what to do :[ I don't want to return this awesome stereo.

You can also check out & ask this on www.avic411.com

And what kind of Cobalt do you have? LS, LT, SS, SS/SC? Do you have the Pioneer Audio System?

And also don't buy that 'Metra OEM adapter.'

I used the cheapy, 06 SS/SC with onstar and XM, I didn't need XM or Onstar, still have my Chimes and stuff. The only "expensive piece" I bought beyond the radio was the Steering wheel adapter. (I will eventually get the Onstar compatible harness, but it's not required.) I bought a 70-2103 off Ebay. for about 11$ shipped

I tried telling this car audio installer guy about the 70-2103 but he kept saying that that was the one he tried to use. He connected it to the car and rubbed two of the wires with a battery and nothing came out of the speakers...he said this was a test. Did he do something wrong?
Is the 70-2103 simply plug and play?

This is what the car audio place left me with btw.

harness looks right. if you have the pioneer system u need to hook up the remote as well for said test to turn on the amp. and that test really shouldnt be done on an amplified system even thou u gotta do what u gotta do sometimes

Well, you said it looked right so I went for it...with excellent results
I actually wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with the red ACC wire...I read somewhere that you wire it into a fuse? So, I plugged it into the relay for the wipers and the fuse on top of that. Is this correct?

this is a thread i made about my GF's install i did in her car... i bought everything off ebay minus the radio and it was all plug and play. the only thing i will say is you run the remote wire to a 10A or 15A fuse and programming the steering wheel interface is different from the directions when you program the buttons you do it right after you push the button when the light is still on.(not after the light goes off)
