XM Radio Set-up ?

Hi,

I have an '06 SS/SC and I have the stock radio without XM.

How can I get XM easily? I know I can just get the extra module and a couple adapters....

I want to know if there's a way to use my stock radio? Where can I buy this and is it hard to install?

Thanks for any input.

Would this work?

i dont have xm but i do have sirius, i got the sirius radio or what ever you want to call the reciever, i mounted it to my vent and ran all the wires down in behind the dash. but i used the fm transmitter and just use my factory head unit. i think xm can have the same set up.

When you buy the sirius, it comes with the adapter to mount to the vents? Also, did you pass the wires through the vents?? (Sorry if it's a dumb question).

Do you have pictures cause I'm not too keen on having extra gadgets in my car. The gps is enough.

Ok perfect then, if it looks good, i'll maybe set that up. I would appreciate it if you have a pictire of it.

It may clear the confusion and doubts that I have.

you should be able to see what i mean about running wires down behind the trim. its all confined behind there and ran down to the center console where the [power source plugs in to the cig lighter outlet

your welcome. like i said the only wire you see is wha is shwon in the pic and if you look done to the ebrake is where the power wire comes out and plugs into the cig outlet. the antenna wire i ended up running down along the door under the molding up through the side panels in the back and up to the rear deck so again no wire is showing.

this was a while ago as you can tell by the paint and wing plugs lol but you can see where my antena for the satelite is mounted. black circle on trunk

go to the dealership and see how much for the stock module. it would be controlled thru the deck vs the aftermarket add on like red. aftermarket will be cheaper and easier as well fyi

I have a XM unit that hooks into your stock radio with all adapters and the module that cuts out the fm signal from bleeding thru. I had it in my truck that I traded for my Cobalt. The Cobalt has an xm so I don't need the xm unit anymore. If you're interested I can take pictures and price it. email me at fljohnboy@aol.com

I'll probably just buy it brand new because it will cost close to nothing. Maybe 100$ tops for something nice. My friend works at Best Buy as an installer and gives me deals.

My only concern is that I can't have any contracts because I store my car 6 months a year. So I will have to see about that. My car is being stored in 1 month, so it will go for next summer.

they should do it monthly, i know sirius does and since the merged should be similiar. also depending on what unit you buy if you go that route you can get a base for in your house as well. thats why i like mine so much i can move my reciever from my car to my house, just pick it out of the car base walk in drop it in my house base wellah i have it all the time. just have to run a satellite antenna at a window thats all

I had the same set up at red in my LS but instead of running it through a channel on my radio, I have it hooked up to the AUX port for a better sound and when I travel, I don't have to keep finding a channel that works. I got my SS about 3 months ago and it has XM but I still haven't got it activiated yet, I'm still using the Sirius receiver until my subscription runs out. Like red said, it's nice to just bring inside the house to play as well and you can also listen to it online at sirius.com for no extra charge, which is kinda of nice.
