Z06?

i was at my dealership the other day and was looking at a Z06 and my service guy was telling me about the ignition system (push button that wont start without remote in car). i was wondering if that could be installed in my ss and how much you think it would cost and where i could even find one?

I'm pretty sure you're SOL buddy. It would be cool and all, but that would be a lot of customization. I'm not the resident guru on anything; though, so I'll just wait till one of them can come on here and explain why it's not worth the effort...

Sure anything is possible, but I'd imagine the cost of just the ignition system would be quite high.

maybe a compromise between the keyless version, and sticking your key in, just not turning it, and have a dash button for kicks.... that would be easy to wire methinks.

Really cool idea. But I would have no idea how to do something like that. Good luck with it.

just a push button start is a joke, i almost put one on my tercel LOL. the deal with the corvette is the push button will only work if you have the keys(car starter) within a certain, just saves you from pulling the keys out of your pocket, but you were to push the button with the keys not in range, it would not start, your friend with the S2000 probably does not have a system like that, just a simple push button.

completely different than whats in the corvettes. thats in all corvettes, by the way. You just need a FOB and a new ignition system completely. not to mention you are still gonna have that little damn keyhole!

My dad's got a 06 Vette... and the keyless start is pretty cool... but what's really sweet is the push-button doors.. no door handles outside or inside.

Incase the battery goes dead... there is a regular key-hole inside the license-plate recess, it will pop the trunk/rear and there is a handle in there that opens the driver's door manually.

I like how it automatically unlocks when you get within a certain distance. It should be possible, but like mentioned above it might cost you.

You can always ask in here. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/general-cobalt-68/help-parts-department-here-36240/

The corvette system is more than just the key fob and "ignition". The ignition is actually the same as what we have in our cobalts, its just wired to a button instead of a cylinder. No matter what to start the car the "key" sends a signal to the BCM to request the engine to start.

However the similarities end there. The corvettes have transmitters in the doors to pick up the signal from the key fob along with a transmitter in the dash to register the key is in the car. The BCM is also a little more complicated obviously. The car also has push button door handles in the car, instead of a latch, which would be sweet in any car.

Its a complicated system, but really cool. Putting it in any other car that it didnt come with would be time consuming and a lot of money.
