Garrett Gearhead letter i got today about turbo kit for 2.2
I have forgone the usual format because there is just too much information! With the 2006 SEMA Show just days away, there is a lot of excitement about new products and the unveiling of new technology. As a Gearhead, you are entitled to not only exclusive technical information about turbocharging, but also a preview of what Garrett is bringing out to Las Vegas this year. I’m not going to tease you, I’m going to tell you exactly what’s happening this year and invite you to stop by booth #24728 to see it for yourself.
making its debut will be the complete Garrett Chevrolet Cobalt turbo kit. This bolt on kit will feature the famous GT2860RS “Disco Potato” turbocharger and will take 2005 and later LS and LT models to 200 HP on only 7 psi of boost! The kit will be available in four different trims that will span the spectrum from complete bolt on to tuner’s dream.
sounds good for the 2.2's that want some power

Hello, my name is Geoff Halfpenny and I’m a Web Forum moderator for CobaltSS.net. One of the largest issues always discussed on our site are the future turbo charging applications that are in development for our Chevy Cobalts. We are aware that Garrett is developing such a kit. However, during a recent search on your web site, I found that you are listing Maximum Boost as the provider of a kit for this car.
Maximum Boost is a scam. You should not allow yourself as a reputable company to be associated with that name. They have been proven to be nothing more then one guy named Frank McKeever that buys knock off parts from Ebay, puts them all in a box and sends them to customers with no actual tuning for the vehicles engine control modules. The internet community knows of Maximum Boost very well. He was first exposed by the older GM j-body owners (Cavaliers and Sunfires) that were equipped with the first Ecotec engines.
We are all very excited about the possibility of a quality turbo kit. However, if Garrett is going to be represented by Maximum Boost, we all know that quality will not exist. I strongly suggest you disassociate yourselves from that name. Thank you for your time.

Hello Geoff,
Thank you for writing! I’m happy to hear that turbocharging is an often discussed topic at CobaltSS.net. Garrett is getting ready to release our complete turbo kit. It will come in four different configurations ranging from complete kit including calibration down to just the essential parts for tuners and fabricators who want to customize everything. If you are going to be at SEMA next week, stop by the Garrett booth (#24748) and take a look. We will have the kit on an Ecotec 2.2L on a stand. You can speak to myself or one of the engineers working on tuning the kit. Right now we have it at about 200 HP at only 7 psi with the stock exhaust.
As for Maximum Boost, I have read on a few forums (CobaltSS.net included) that Frank is not well-respected in many circles. He is not, however, involved in any part of our Cobalt turbo kit. His listings on the Turbo Application Search Engine (TASE) are only links to his site. His, like all other listings on the TASE, are for turbo kits known to contain Garrett turbochargers. Garrett does not endorse any kit listed on the TASE. Maximum Boost will not be representing our kit as it is being designed entirely in-house with parts sourced from extremely reputable companies that have a standing relationship with Garrett.
Once again, thank you for your concern. I appreciate your representation and involvement in working to get more quality aftermarket support for the Cobalt community.
Regards,
Kyle Snyder
