JDM T3/T4 Cobalt Turbo?

CUSTOM RACE T3T4 T3 T4 TurboCharger TURBO BOOST KIT 485HP PACKAGE * BRAND NEW * | eBay

Anyone know if this is any good? It looks like a universal kit so I assume it's a hassle to install. But it says it's compatible with all Cobalts? But I guess anything is possible if you've got the dough. Anyway, my question is has anyone actually tried this or a similar universal kit? If so, how hard was installation (or how expensive)? I'm looking to TC my 2.2 but I'm not looking to pay $3,000+ for a ZZP kit. Any tip info or tips are much appreciated.

Secondly, any suggested supported mods? I'm currently using a K&N air intake and Magnaflow catback. I know I'll definitely need to invest in a downpipe (I'll probably order the ZZP one), but other than that most of the other stuff like the intercooler seems to be included. Anything else I would want beyond that? (Within reasonable price range that is, so no new engine blocks or anything obscene like that.) I've heard the T3/T4 is one of the larger turbo systems available so I wanna make sure I have all my bases covered. I won't be running like 30 PSI or anything nuts like that. 15 PSI probably at most.

Just as he said, You get what you pay for

Those are all universal parts. If you have never installed a turbo on a car it will be uber difficult. That kit also does not include a new intake manifold, the right exhaust manifold, Injectors, tuning, or any of the other big money parts.

You are basically getting a few misc pieces, some piping, an intercooler and a turbo for $450, not a good deal at all.

If you have never done a swap I strongly urge you to buy a complete kit like ZZPs. It may cost more but the results are great and the amount of time saved because everything works and fits correctly is well worth the cost.

This is also what I am currently saving up for. Have you started building your engine yet? At the least you will need pistons and rods. The ones I am getting are about 850 as a package.

^Technically you don't absolutely have to build the engine first if not looking for over 250-300 hp. I however commend you though for being smart and doing it right the first time instead of blowing up your motor and then getting on here all pissed off about it.

Nah. Minus cosmetics, the exhaust and intake, my Cobalt is bone stock. I figured I wouldn't need to run a beefier engine since I won't be running high PSI numbers. I might consider cams/pistons/rods though since it'll probably be a cheaper alternative for more horsepower (for now) over just the turbo kit and will ultimately help the Cobalt really shine in the future.

I suppose I don't quite understand why most cobalt owners are trying to get alot of something for absolutely nothing all the time. Have you thought about the rest of your car if you decided to put this on your car? 15 psi on your stock motor? It would blow sky high so fast you wouldn't even know what to do.

Bottom line. If you don't want to step up to the plate correctly and get one of the turbo kits one of the companies had R&D'ed for the platform, don't do anything, because that means you wont want to deal with all the breaking that would come from buying a cheap, terrible kit like this.

My cobalt is the same... This is what I am doing before I put the zzp stage 3 turbo in. Wiesco pistons, Eagle rods, Arp Headstuds and going to the junkyard to rip out the exhaust out of an SS. Oh yeah and I am going to lower it about 2 inches which is a must lol for the base.

The rods and pistons are not something that you do to get more power out of them directly. Just swapping those will not give you any more power, they just let you push the motor harder (ie. boost) to make more power that way. And cams are pretty much a waste. First off, there is no direct fit set of cams for the 07 or 08 2.2 because of the cam position sensor. You have to have the "key" on the intake cam pressed off and pressed back on to the new set of cams. And second you will gain like 10 hp out of it after spending over a grand for parts and machine work, then depending on if you do the install yourself or take it to a shop.(no offense you don't really sound like you know a lot about modding cars) it would be another expense on top of that. My advice is to read up on this forum about some turbo builds in the 2.2 L61 section and then save up for a ZZP turbo kit and a set of Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons.
