need advice on which turbo to go with

ive decided to go turbo with my lsj. im currently in the research stage of my future build. i have so many questions as far as turbo setups go. i do know that ive decided to build my own kit. as far as the turbo goes, ive done a little bit of research and im leaning towards either the borg warner s252 et or the hahn s20g. which do you guys think is better? im wanting to make about 400hp. yes it will go into my daily driven cobalt. are there any other turbos you guys would recommend? im interested in one of these 2 turbos because ive read that they are at full boost by 3500 and stay that way till redline. after looking at prices, the s252 is a little more pricey then the s20g. and at this point, im leaning towards the s20g because of pricing. but if the s252 et is a better turbo, id convince myself to save a little more to get that one. any and all info is greatly appreciated. like i said, im new to the turbo world. thank you all in advance!

s20g is waaaaaay out dated. Pass over that. If you got it, you'd want to upgrade the next day.

s252 is a good choice, but the s252et is by far the way to go. You get what you pay for. Don't short hit on you main component and regret it the next day. Do it right the first time. S252et will give you what you described and keep you happy.

Come on css.net! 54 views and only one person with a helpful opinion! I know there are way more people on this forum that either have these turbos or have experience with them. I just need honest opinions on what you guys think of these turbos because its what ill be getting first.

not the s252et.....reason no one is replying is there was a thread a week ago about the same basic thing.
s252et will get you to 400 and give you room to play.
to get to where the s252et will breeze you will have to run the 20g a lot harder comparably.

What's the big deal with these new turbos I hear borg warner is releasing? What makes them better then the s252 et or the s256 et? Should I just hold off on the s252 et and get one of those new ones!?

Next question is what is a good wastegate to go with and what size for the s252 et? Zzp sells the tial and precision works wastegates. Which. They have so many options when it comes to their products and it sucks that I don't know what options to choose.

A s20g can produce 550whp still within efficiency. If al he wants is 400 the s20g is a good turbo just because its about 800$ for a standard s20g mine has a extended tip and I'm able to push the limits and have sorta why I've blown two trannys and two clutchmasters 6 pucks rated at 550+wtq. Reason why I went with ky clutch. But if u are looking fo respectable powa and price s20g is it.

lol sounds like you need to do some reading or just tell zzp what you want and buy the full kit
38mm vband tial with zzp vband wg on their manifold, if you wanna spend 500 bucks on a wg get the 44, you can never go too big but you can outgrow the smaller, will that happen on a 38mm and s252et, doubt it.

I agree with 05slowline. If your unsure about a lot of the things for the swap just let zzp handle it. Their prices are very very good and with top notch quality.

Anyone can just go the simple route and buy a kit that's ready to go. That's no fun for me. I enjoy taking the time to learn everything I can about what im wanting to do to my car. That's why im wanting to piece my own kit together. I get no real satisfaction from having someone else make a kit for me. And on top of that, it ends up being cheaper this way. Thank you all for all your helpfull input! I greatly appreciate it. And again I apologize for having so many questions that (so many who already know about this stuff) may sound stupid, but I just like you all who do know this stuff wasn't born with turbo knowledge. That's why forums exist. And that's why people join them. So they can become knowledgeable on things they wanna know more about. Again to all who have given me their helpfull input, I thank you!

Bl4des-i was wanting to go that route but after looking at prices for all the rest of the stuff, I don't understand how its cheaper to piece a kit together.

Yellowcobaltss7590- did you piece yours together ot did you buy zzps kit? And if you did piece it together, about how much did you end up spending without any of the internals you bought!? Just the things needed for the turbo kit.

bought the whole kit. if you look at it you pay for quality parts. and this way you KNOW everything is there and not one part is missing.
