Super, turbo, or twin charged?

I have my 06 cobalt ss/sc. What would be best for my car power and performance wise, keeping it supercharged and build that up, swap to a turbo, or get it twincharged? If you have any insight on this, it would be appreciated.

Turbo is most likely the best $ per hp choice

You will make the most power, for the best price by doing a turbo swap.

Turbo is the best bang for your buck, I'd love to see another twincharged SS though. But I'm not sure how reliable a twincharged Cobalt is

its all in what YOU want out of the car. I picked up a used TVS for my SC car and never looked back. You can still make good power and run fast times with the TVS. Ive had to spend alot on traction mods as well with the power level im at. Sure a turbo might sound and look cool but if you arent harnessing that power ill blow your doors off in my car.

6 posts in and he's already asking one of the most generic questions on here not to mention he has no power goals in mind. If your asking a question like this you need to do research, bottom line.

I want to get the most power out of it. I'm thinking if i stay suer charged i would get around 300 whp. Turbo I see going easily over 300 whp with a good tune. Twincharged might be out of the question due to the fact i can not find anything dealing with that. Thanks for the replies and I'm still continuing to do some research in the meantime.

^This. Also if you have to ask such a simple question, might wanna stick with your blower. Turbos are already less reliable than superchargers, and at this level of knowledge your car will explode, killing all those around you.

supercharged you can make great power (over 300 whp) with no boost lag. Turbos you can make more power easier than with a supercharger but turbos have boost lag. Twin charged you get the best of both worlds but its a lil spendy and tricky to tune but zzp are teh experts at it. My vote would be twin charged if you got the coin.

You really can't just say "I wanna get the most power out of my car" because of that were true you'd be shooting for over 900hp. YoU gotta think about what use this power is gonna really be for you. Is this something you're gonna drive every day, do you wanna actually get traction below 80mph, are you gonna take it to the road course, drag race, autox, do you want something that is a highway monster or just fun to cruise around in, are you prepared to spend 3 or 4 thousand to make 400 hp, etc?

I'm asking to get insight on what i should do. i had an evo before but got in a wreck and now i have the cobalt. I love both turbos and superchargers but dont know exactly how a swap would be for the car. This is my first supercharged car, so im still learning what makes them better. I know enough about turbos to be able to manage if i was to go turbo.

On the M62 you will be at 300 TOPS and will be pushing your motor. TVS is good if you want low 300s on pump and mid to high on E85. If you want more power than that just go turbo and forget twin charged. Go check out previous build threads on here and see the results. It will get you a good idea of what you want.

It will be driven every day, fun to cruise around in, but wanna make it powerful for when i want to get on it. I'm not worried about the money. I am looking to get a loan for around 5k if everything goes as planned.

You'd probably be happy with a small turbo build, something like 350-400 whp. Anything more and you're gonna be fighting traction all the time. You can keep the boost numbers lower and get a nice quick spool time. Fun to drive on the street, manageable, and if done right reliable.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA sorry, i just HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH oh man.

woooooooooooo, okay. caught my breath.

now, you sir. should be the one doing research. go hit 400whp on your blower and put 50k miles on it. see how reliable and safe your stock engine is. turbo can do that all day long.

you do realize that the lsj started life as a turbocharged engine, right??? So swapping it BACK to a turbocharged platform won't affect its reliability or efficiency at all. Slapping on the biggest turbo on the market and turning up the boost might...but the same can be said with going down to a 2.5" pulley with no cooling mods whatsoever. Don't be a douche to the newbs when they ask legitimate questions.

Boost lag is really just relative to the size of the turbo and how quick it takes the exhaust gases to spool the turbine housing. So a good sized turbocharger (like a s252et or s20g) will have minimal lag and have a significant increase in torque and horsepower, more than a supercharger. There's a reason why zzp discontinued their twincharge kit, which has been thoroughly discussed in other threads.

And learning is the first responsible step before actually going through with either of these routes. Go to the forced induction section of this forum and start there. There's lots of build threads that have gone TVS, turbocharged, and even stuck with the m62 and gotten power levels that people have desired. Once you have your power goals in mind and what kind of usage you want for you cobalt (daily driven, some track, mostly track, autox, etc) find the build that's right for you and the other questions will be answered from there.
