turboing the 2.4..some quick questions

1) Where is the best place to find pre-fitted intercooler piping (hahns? i looked and didnt see anything
2) if i am going with a mani with a t28/t28 flange what turbo would be the most bang for the buck? (i would love to get the gt2860rs but its alittle pricy)
3) intercooler.... what size should i go with, best suitable? (thought about going with an srt front mount...)
4) what injectors are appropriate for the 2.4 and turboing? could i go through hahn also for that? maybe do some 60lb'ers?

thanks guys. please let me in on any info. once again thanks again

1. Talk to garrett and see if they will sell you just the piping.
2. gt2860rs is ok for under 300whp but i cant get mine to boost more than 11psi. look for something bigger if you want big power.
3. srt front mount is good for bigger power but if you plan to stay under 300whp then smaller would be better for efficiency.
4. 60's are the way to go. i bought mine from hahn racecraft as direct drop ins.

I'd stay away from the GT2860RS. I really feel that it's undersized for this motor. We ran the numbers and it just seems way too small.

I was going to go with a GT2871R, which is pretty good for the 2.4L motor. I ended up getting talked into something a little bit larger, but that's because I plan on pushing more power later with a built motor/trans.

As far as IC piping, the Hahn stuff is just the Garrett Kit piping. It's a recirculating BOV setup in 2" piping IIRC. I'd suggest either having a shop fabricate it, or buy a generic kit and piece it together with silicone couplers.

I dont have a boost controller at all. just have the wastegate rod fully turned out so as to not hold any boost back and all it will give is 11 psi.

you have a boost leak then!

what kinda janky wastegate do you have?

to the op, you need a larger piece then some t28 turd like your manifold will force you to use.

No boost controller is why you arent getting more then 11 psi...your just running off the wastegate spring. Hell you might even get better boost response with a boost controller since it will keep the spring from cracking too early. Tuning boost off a wastegate spring only is so mid 1980s.

Really... a boost controller isn't that expensive if you get a cheapo from ebay. A really nice manual one should run you $90 new, maybe $60 used if you can find it. I recommend the Forge Unos.

dan-dan

re-read what he said...

something along the line of a gate rod (huh?) but he says hes got it set and "all it will give is 11 psi"

so unless i'm reading his poor grammar incorrectly, it sounds as if hes got a massive leak....but i've never seen a WG with a rod on it.....

Like Paz said its an internal gated 2860rs...internal gates have rods as the actuator isnt directly on the valve but relocated somewhere else

I tried finding this out before and i couldnt get an answer. i wasnt sure if a boost controller would do something other than turning the wastegate would. I guess later on when I have $, i might try to throw a BC on and retune for more power. I just gotta watch the tq because I don't have $ to rebuild the trans anytime soon.
