'08 Cobalt Turbo gonna happen
Yes it's looking more and more like a Cobalt SS turbo (260hp) is gonna happen, Motor Trend has an artical on a HHR SS with a 2.0L direct inject turbo ECOTEC w/260hp, the same motor that's in the Sky Redline/Solstice GXP! The HHR is on the same platform as the Cobalt/G5, the Delta platform, it's gonna happen.

They also said that there is a Uber-Vette on the way, the Stingray is the name so far. 600hp supercharged LS7, and a weight below the Solstice/Sky

I really wonder how they are going to get that vette to be so light. There must be some expensive lightweight materials going into that car. I mean, just taking the car they have now, adding a blower, intercooler, extra fluids, heat exchanger, is going to add quite a bit of weight. Then after adding all that weight the car is going to somehow lose it all, plus lose extra weight to get down to the 29XX lbs they are aiming towards. I would love to see it happen, but fear it's going to be mighty expensive.

I fixed your post
Well they're close...I wouldn't really say it "lays waste" to the GT.

Damn...you guys are wayyyyy behind. The ION RL is discontinued in production as of Sept 1, 2006. They are replacing it next fall with the same thing as the opel astra vxr!
Technically its not the same as the GXP and SKY RL because it lays differently in the engine bay and is still FWD.
It is a 2.0L Turbo with 260/260. The Cobalts are going to stop being made in their current plant and start being made in the plant where the ION is in TN.
Much potential thought none the less....

My point is that if you want a drag monster FWD should be ur last choice. If you want a, or only have a, FWD car for drag thats coo.
Im looking for the 300hp mark and thats about it than my attention and money will put into something else.

I'm not saying that FWD is the best platform for drag. All I'm saying is high HP FWD cars aren't pointless or useless, if they were then the whole rice burner scene would never have taken off, and you wouldn't have cars like the SRT'4s and ours. Speed is about money, how fast do you want to go? Me personally, I only want to go about 13 seconds worth, then I'm done. My car is perfect for what I want. Yes FWD cars are cheap, and there is a reason that Z06's don't come FWD. I know.

The Ion has also gotten a temporary reprieve from the chopping block and will be built until the end of March 2007 now.
