1st to 2nd gear shifts

has anyone noticed that sometimes the engine bogs down when going from 1st to second?
i'll be moving in 1st gear somewhat spiritedly but not at wot and shift at approx 3-3.5k and the engine seems to bog down like it's been taken completely out of it's power band and then once the supercharger spools up it starts to feel ok. but is this normal? i noticed some people ove at the redline forums mentioning something similar. just want to know if i need to take my brand new car in for a checkup alread. it only has 1k miles on it and i do know ohow to drive a manual. my very first car was a manual 94 firebird.

Note: under really hard acceleration, this doesn't seem to occur

I test drove a 2.0L SC SS the other day and noticed hte same thing, you hit second and you expect it to take off...... my LS hits harder in second, not saying its faster, but it seem the gear ratios are weird on the ss.

1st gear in the SS/SC is very short and it's not hard to fall out of the powerband if you don't shift at the correct time.

im hopping someone in the aftermarket comes out with a way to increase the redline to like 7000 or 7200 rpms. i know the gm build book says to run at rpms over 7500 u just need to replace the valve springs. so this would be the first thing i would do before increasing the redline. i think this would help solve this problem because if u shift at 7200 u would go down to about 4000 or so rpms.

I havent noticed any bogging down when running in the torque band. As mentioned above 1st gear has been set somewhat for launching. The fiat f35 tranny handles these gears well. This car is set up to run fast and LOVE it..

Keep in mind the build book is for the 2.2, NOT the 2.0.

As far as shifting first to second, at first, yeah, it bogged, but even when I shift at 2500 now I don't notice much if any power loss. The trick I found is to ease into the gas just a hair as you're letting out of the clutch and the engine will "catch" just fine.

As far as people saying to shift at redline, of course you should do that at the track but for daily driving that's first of all not practical and second of all HIGHLY unnecessary. Like I said, after about 2 1/2 months of daily driving the car, I finally leanred the tranny and all the gear changes are smooth as silk, no jerking and no bogging down in second. Play around with your shifts a little bit, the only time I still notice some bogging is if I am starting out on a hill, then sometimes it will bog down going from 1st to 2nd.

I found that if you shift at 3k, then let the tach drop to 2k until you let the clutch out there is no hesitation and it transitions perfectly into the next gear. For some reason the electronic throttle hovers at the same RPM even when you let off the gas to take it out of gear, and if you shift before it drops down the engine starts bucking.

i would've rather just had a lower ratio first gear. not saying the 7k redline would be bad, but damn i hate first, it's useless

Ive found the trick is not to smash into 2nd... ease it in a little and it doesnt bog.

What's weird in my car, I don't know if you guys have this, but say if i'm in 2nd gear at 1000rpm. I'll floor it to 2000rpm and then let the gas up 1/4 of the way to half the way but the car will keep accelerating at the same pace for like 500 to about 1000 more rpms. Has anyone experienced this in their SS/SC?

I just came on line to write the same complaint. I have noticed that when I am giving it decent amount of gas and I shift not so aggressive, when second hits the power is really good at the lower rev range. If I give it full gas all the way to 6000-6500rpm like i did for the first time today and mash it into second, I loose all power at the lower revs in second and have to wait for the engine to pick up power? I know I read somewhere that there is a valve that releases any extra boost that the supercharger gives. Is it possible that when I gun it hard and shift hard, there is no boost when I hit second because that valve let out the extra pressure at the top of 1st, and seeing how i went into second hard, the valve could be open still. Thats just a guess, needless to say I was disapointed when I let her rip twice today, lots of first gear power, squak into second and then BOGG!

The clutch and gearing in the car certainly has personality. With enough practice you'll be shifting like a pro

If the engine is cold it seem to be more prone to bog in the 1-2 shift, but I just rev to about 3500 and it never bogs on me.

I am not having a shiting problem, its the engine, it losses power when I go into second when I really give it the juice. I will try tomorrow, see what happens

Go easier on the throttle. I found if you give it too much gas it seems to bog a little bit at low to mid RPMs. Also I find shifting out of 1st a around 4K the best. I'm saying floor it to 4K, just give it a little gas til you reach 4K. GM changed 2 gears for the SS/SC tranny, 1st and 5th. First was to improve acceleration 5th for fuel econ. I think they went a little too tall for first.

i didnt mind first on the ss/sc. i shift around 3-3500 with no bucking, second felt pretty impressive around 3000 rpm.
