2007 ss/sc cold air intake
Hey guys, this is my first post. Bought my 07 ss/sc about 7 months ago and I'm ready to start throwing some upgrades on it. I've noticed a lot of choices for cold air intakes. I'm just curious what everyone has found as far as best in performance. I know zzp offers a full 3 inch intake and k&n makes the typhoon. But then there are the cheap $79.00 intakes you can get on eBay. I want to do it right the first time and get the best so any input would be great! Thanks.

Use search function(google your question and type cobalt after it) And save yourself the cash and do an airbox mod, the lsj already has a 3 inch intake all you need to do is remove the plastic piece covering up the filter element.
And welcome!

ZZP is going to be your best bet for quality, performance and price. DO NOT buy a cheapo air filter on ebay waste of money!! Do it right your car will love you for it.

Thanks for all the input guys. If I do the air box mod wouldn't I have to relocate the mass air flow sensor? Or can I get away with trimming around it?

nope don't need to relocate the mass air flow sensor just remove the air box take the bottom off drill a few holes in the box put the air box back on leave the bottom out get a K&n air filter optional though stock will work but get a couple zip ties and put theme under the air filter to make sure it dose not fall out i have ran this for about 2 years no problems

If you want to do the airbox mod, just go there:
E-0777 - K&N Replacement Filters, Replacement Air Filter direct from K&N
Buy this filter, and go in the how to section to see how to do the airbox mod.
This filter is a direct replacement for the OEM one, but have a better air flow.

Stock intake with bottom lid removed supported 400hp on the Time Attack Cobalt just an fyi....
My stock intake with my personal airbox mod outflowed my old Injen intake by a good amount, and was on par with all the 3" intakes I tested.
Louder whine makes people think they are making more power than they really are.
Also, I just tested the K&N E-0777 drop in vs. the stock AC Delco and the restriction from the stock filter is minimal at best. Results are in post #57.
Take a look at the thread below, it's a good read:

The LSJ responds to modifications on the exhaust side much better ie. exhaust ported head, free flowing header/downpipe, and catback.

Same for me, I started with the airbox mod, but went with the ZZP CAI 5 months after, worth to change IMO too, the sound of the supercharger is so sexy at WOT, and seems to have a better airflow. Didn't dyno it before and after, so i don't have any number to show.

You are right, not saying more air flows through it because of the whine, i said that because the car seemed to have less restriction when going up in rpm, but maybe my filter was at the end of his life too.
