5th gear blew rebuild or f49???

so like the title says I was driving my 06 cobalt sc and as I shifted to 5th gear I saw the rpms just go up then drop. 1-4 stil work but once I try to shift to 5th theres nothing there so I guessing that the 5th gear synchros went out either way I'm wondering if its better to just rebuild the f35 or just save and go f40 now that zzp offers their kit again. from all the reading Ive been doing I only know that infared has done this and I belive there was an hhr wagon had the tranny but sold it. I'm not sure what to do

An f40 is way overkill for you if you aren't running a big turbo. You will have about $4k in a f40 setup and you can get a rebuilt f35 for $2,500 or less.

yea I was thinking f40 so I could have the potential to go big hp if I want it later down the line. From the prices I guess its better just to fix the f35. well since ill be taking the tranny out is there anything I should do to it to make it stronger. I read people talk about 4.45 gearing or cryo freezing and what not.

does it lock you out of gear or is it just spongy over by 5th?

What Are your mods? If it's the trans just do a 4.05 rebuild. 5th is a strange gear to screw up unless you grind it allot. I would guess it's not your trans but your shift linkage.

so the story goes I bought the car last year from a use car for 4gees. I notice it had been modded before byy the previous owner but not sure what was done to it. about 4 month later my gf was driving it to work and the engine blew out so I decided to upgrade the block to zzp gen 3 with there je pistons and zzp rods and since the tranny was down upgrade to stage 3 south bend clutch. unfortunately the mechanic that put everything in did shitty work so ive been working on it fixing there mistakes since. until last night I had the engine running great on the way home on the freeway I shifted into 5th and I know I shifted correctly but it sounded like the synchros didn't grab and with a loud grind and pop there was no 5th anymore had to drive in 4th all the way home

mods are
gen 3 zzp block with je pistons and zzp rods
south bend stage 3 clutch
intense stage 3 with 2.8 pulley ( I changed it to a 3.0 after the enginge blew)
42lbs injectors
k&b cai
fe5 yyz v.5 (but on the springs they say v.6)
g85

the car came with no cooling mods but I do have them on order and should be shipping to my house any day now

also does anyone know how to fix the title lol

Only on the supercharger trans issues are pretty unlikely unless something was effed up on the car or abuse. Definitely look at your linkage maybe it didn't have a possative engagement because it wasn't adjusted properly and the last shift to fifth finished off the linkage. Also Check the roll pin they are notoriously bad on Balts.

I checked the linkage that good I'm not sure what the roll pin are but it definitely inside the tranny because u can hear something rattling around when I was driving home in 4th

It sounds like your already on the road to big power...

But yea, I've never heard of 5th failing, usually it's 3rd that goes. Does the car have an aftermarket shifter? If so definitely check shifting cables and linkages
