Best Muffler for Cobalt SS

So I'm looking to get a better sound from the slobalt. I know the best way to do that is probably with a catback, but I would rather just get a muffler and use the money I saved for a different mod that will give me more than 10hp. I've heard good things about magnaflow, flowmaster (which I don't particularly like the sound a flowmaster on a cobalt, plus they have a problem with rusting out), and megan. I read that megan is pretty loud, but I haven't been able to find a sound clip of one. Anyone have any ideas or opinions?
Thanks

It will depend on your balt to an extent. an SC will give a different tone than a TC with the same muffler, same as the NA 2.4.

Are you SC/TC/NA?

I'm SC'd, and have stock muffler but catless downpipe, and it sounds awesome. fairly quite at idle and cruise, loud at WOT..

Yeah I have an SC. Honestly, I'm just looking for the cheapest option with best sound quality because I'm a cheap ass college student with no money hahaha

I did just this, removed factory muffler and replaced it just for sound, as I wasn't looking for performance. I ended up going with a Borla, sounds close to stock idle/cruising with a bit more throaty sound, and pretty loud at wot without sounding ricey.

I'll have to upload a sound clip to Youtube soon.

Edit: Almost forgot, this is on a TC. Borla model was the Pro-XS 40358

Due to what you said in post 4, I'd stay stock. If it's cheap it's going to sound like **** and give you issues.

Best option, GMPP, Corsa, or ZZP's.

Get a header/dp combo before an exhaust.

It comes down to preference. Everybody say GMPP is the "best" but I had one and took it off. Why? Because before I had zzp 3inch catted dp ,a megan racing catback with a 3 inch magnaflow muffler and oh boy did it sound mean. Rumbles and gargles like a beast! So going from that to GMPP my me sad, not saying that it's a bad exhaust by all means because it did sound nice but quite. That's why it comes down to what your into, for me I like to be heard before I'm seen lol.

Nice! I would sad going from what you had before to gmpp too hahah. I mean, I would like something loud (I know an aftermarket muffler can get you so much louder) but not ricey.
As to what someone else about remaining stock - I don't mean cheap as get the cheapest muffler out there. I can afford to get a good muffler like magnaflow or gmpp or whatever. I was really just wondering what people preferred for mufflers or if anyone had any other affordable options. I just got my ss so this would be my first mod

Th best muffler is the one that sounds like a music to your ears. I personally like the Magnaflow because it has a smooth tone. Not loud but you will know that it is there especially when it starts to open up.

GMPP sounds real good it's not cheap.

Get a header and high flow catted downpipe.

personally I had magnaflow, Hahn, and corsa.

Hahn sounded the best but blew all the packing out
magnaflow sounded like **** but fit the best and broke at the welds to the muffler
corsa fit like crap but was the best in between. that was my personal experience

Hahn with zzp whisper resonator.

the best muffler for an LSJ is a Borg Warner S256et

One of the more pricey mufflers for an LSJ right?

Note.... his was purchased used, and I remember the issues he had.

I did not experience any fitment issues with my Corsa.

Installed since 2010 (purchased brand new), and it fits and hangs just like stock, but sounds sooo much better.

Doesn't really matter either way, because you can't purchase them new anymore though.

I don't think you can buy the GMPP anymore.

I had a Vibrant complete. The CAT failed multiple times. The pipes break at the welds - very thin material. The Vibrant price is reasonable 300 series stainless 3in but its loud and doesn't last.

Just replaced the CAT back with a Magnaflow. Magnaflow is a 2.5in diameter - not 300 series stainless. Toned it down nicely compared to the Vibrant.
