Close Call - Hit a Curb
So today while I was driving to work, I was about to go into the left turn lane, which was empty, and had an idiot pull out of the straight lane in front of me. I slammed on the brakes (damn LS has no ABS ) and I lost all steering. I ended up hitting the median, which was a cement curb. After work tonight, driving home, I noticed that my Cobalt vibrates pretty bad from that wheel, along with a type of flapping sound. My steering wheel vibrates pretty bad too. Do you guys think it'll just need an alignment...or could it be more? Thanks for reading...

you damaged your hub and bearing, and bent the rim. Same EXACT thing happened in my G6. Noises and all
The vibration is from the bent rim, the flapping noise if from the bearing.

Well, I'll be going to Pepboys tomorrow and I'll have them check it out. I just wanted to see what I should expect...
effex80: how much did that end up costing you?

it wasn't cheap. for everything, it was around 350-375. and I had a steelies.
Lets hope its just rim, then its just the price of the rim, but the bearing is like 300 to replace.

Stopped by a mechanic today... We did take a hard look at it but it just looks like steelie took the damage for me. It's bent pretty bad. I gotta take it back on Monday and he's gunna put it on a lift and check it out closer.

Man, that sucks. At least I just have some hubcaps Why the hell are people so stupid? I thought for sure I was going to hit that other guy until the curb stopped me. I probably would've got the ticket, too, since I was behind him. I'm one of the only 16/17 y.o's I know that hasn't gotten into an accident or gotten a ticket in the first year of having my license...I really don't want that to change...especially because of someone else's stupidity...

After going to a mechanic and putting it on the lift, we figured out that it's mainly the rim that is bent. He told me to get that taken care of and he can take a better look at the rest of the car. I got the idea to throw the bent rim on the rear instead of my front. That was probably my best idea so far... So now nothing shakes or vibrates anymore...BUT I discovered that during hard braking my car vibrates, so I'm guessing I warped the rotor or something (My brakes were locked up when I hit the curb).
To add insult to injury my locking mechanism for the gear shifter got all screwed up (it's in a TSB) so the take my key out of the ignition I have to press the solenoid under the steering wheel to release my key. Now even when the key is out my gear shifter can still move without the brake being pressed.

Ironically I've only got one curbed rim and the ********* at Pepboys are the ones that curbed it. So just make sure they don't screw it up worse than you did.
