Cobalt LT towing another vehicle?

So I have a 2010 cobalt LT and I was thinking of towing another vehicle from Washington to South Dakota. I'm wanting to tow a 68 VW beetle back for restoration/project. My cobalt is an automatic and I'm curious if it would be able to handle it on a trailer or dolly going up the hills and whatnot. I'm looking towards doing this in about a year from now and looking for ideas.

Legally you're limited to 1000lbs.

Rental places won't even let you rent a dolly for your Cobalt.

I'd recommend against towing with the Cobalt. But I pulled at 1,700 LB trailer with the LSJ on E85 without any issue for 1,200 miles.
