Is a Cobalt SS a good first car?
Im a 16 year old boy looking to buy my first car. I have done my research on cars and i have decided that i want a cobalt ss supercharged. I have worked and saved up 6500$ dollars and i found a 2006 Cobalt ss supercharged with 119,000 miles on it for 7,500$ I got him talked down to 6,000$ because he needs a suv. So my question is are Cobalts good reliable cars with that many miles on it? It is completely stock btw. Thanks

The LSJ is a reliable car. There are cars the same spec that have way more mileage and are running just fine.
Some quirks left me on the side of the road, but it's the nature of cars in general.

Is it completely stock for the sale or has it been completely stock its entire life? Find a shop that will do at least a compression test, better yet a leak down test that will tell you how healthy the engine is quickly

^^^ I'm with this guy.
Make SURE its in good health before dropping your cash down. My previous SS/TC's were "stock" when I traded them in, but I had ran the everloving **** out of them for a year and put them back to mechanically and tune stock.
If the Cobalt you choose is indeed well cared for, I find these to be very reliable cars minus a few annoying suspension issues etc you can cheaply repair/upgrade.

The SS S/C is an excellent first car. Very reliable powertrain and very easy to work on. Parts are cheap and easy to find. Insurance is about average. Get a quote online and go from there, don't just call someone for a quote because they'll overcharge you.
I got my 07 SS S/C when I was 17; I'm 24 now and the car has 96k hard miles on it and it still runs great. It's not the best built car but if you can get around that and just drive the damn thing I think you'll be happy.

I'd get it for 6k. Like I said, 96k on mine and I drove the ***** off of it ever since I got it and I know it could do another 100k easy. Just keep fresh fluids in it and drive it.

I think the cobalt/ion mix is a good first car. my first car was the ion sedan, still have it, still love it.
but like they said, have the tests done to see how healthy the engine is. they are easy and cheap to work on, but you don't wanna buy the car for 6k if it needs a tremendous amount of work to it also.

ive personally seen some ecos with over 300,000 miles on them, still running like new. even if you don't wanna mod it, just keep up with basic maintenance and it will last.
I just realized, I was 16 when I got my sedan. most 16 year olds want mommy and daddy to get them a mustang/Camaro/charger. I was excited over an Ion. lmao

One thing to remember. Again I do not know you but my first thought when you said you were 16 and getting a SS/SC is that this could be a bad thing.
RESPECT THE POWER OF THE CAR! Try not to do foolish things. (at least when you first get it)
Get to know the car how it handles how it feels driving it. Once you are past that then you will be able to have more fun since you will know the capabilities of the car.
